I am looking for a new truck and my dealership has the new dodge 6.7 and 6 speed automatic. They have a dodge 3500 quad cab dually and a dodge 3500 chassis with a western hauler bed and auxiliary fuel tank. It has everything installed for towing and already has the spray in bed liner and hitch. The western hauler has the aisin transmission and lots of storage doors in the bed. Other than those things they have the same options in the interior. With that in mind which one would you choose and how much more would you pay for the dodge western hauler? When priced the dealer's invoice is only five hundred more for the western hauler. Is that a good deal?

The one with Aisin tranny.It also has the 54 gallon full tank? Its also got the NEW heavy frame designed for up fitting as well.Its the long haul machine designed for heavier work.That same unit is coming out under the Sterling/Freightliner badge also in the 4500/5500 series with 19.5 tires and wheels."Rumor" is also a 180k factiory warranty on trans and optional 200k extended service contract on truck is forth comng. The $500 more for the Westen hauler bed sounds like a great deal.

Yup, I'd take the chassis with the western hauler on it too. Even if I had to wash dishes down at the local cafe' to make up the extra five hundred bucks! It probably came out of the factory as a cab and chassis, which as I understand has some significant changes over the standard pickup. Maybe Reg. can help, I think I remember him sayin' that he uses, or has had, the cab and chassis set up instead of the regular pickup. Well, EVEN if the rig is NOT a cab and chassis out of the factory, someone has already swaped beds and that alone is worth more than the differance in money! Those western beds are PRICEY! Good luck and have fun, don't forget to mention to the dealer that FORD is having 0% A.P.R. and that there is a nice Chevy down the road that has caught your eye!! Make him sweat a little, see just what kind of deals he can come up with to keep you standing in HIS lot!!! Talk to y'all later...

The western hauler has a msrp of 59,000 and the invoice is 51,000. He said he will sell it to me for 51,000, but I am hoping I can get him down to around 45,000 because it has been on his lot for two months and he has not sold it.
Do you guys think that is a good deal?

I know it was a cab and chassis because the dealer had 4 of them converted to western hauler and this is the only one with the laramie package and everything else.
So if you had the choice between a dodge quad cab dually and this cab and chassis which one would you pick?

There ya go, it is deffinately a cab and chassis, that's the one I'd go for. As far as the price being a good deal or not, I don't know. I've not been in the truck market for a long time, not sure what you can expect to pay for that kind of rig. Talk to y'all later...

It also has the 54 gallon full tank.
That would be nice on long trips. But can you imagine filling that thing at $3 a gallon? $160 bucks at a time. I have a hard time stomaching $70 for a fill up. Its much easier (for my mental health) to just put $20 and not look at the fuel gage until it beeps at me.

No, western hauler took out the 51 gallon fuel tank and replaced it with a 22 gallon tank but they added a 90 gallon axillary tank to the bed. With 112 gallons I might not be filling up so often but it will be hard to stomach the diesel bill! Hopefully it will get better mileage than my Ford!

They did WHAT.Now I would be bent.Just because of the AFTERMARKET stuff that would have to do to make it work correctly(fuel pump,fuel gauge,no lines leaking ,switching valves or rubbing etc.I'd want some big SHOW and TELL me what was done to the factory fuel system and lines.PLUS I'd want the option if I wanted to add a aux.fuel tank to the standard 54 gallon tank later myself.Not forced on me before in the purchase price.Nego room?Still would take the C&C over a standard dually any day for hauling livestock and loads.Thats what its MADE to do.Duallys ok but the C&C is a WORK grade above.

I will try and check the fuel tank whether or not it is 54 gallons or 22 gallons. But on the dodge website it says the cab and chassis come in either 54 gallons or 22 gallons. So maybe it was like that from the factory.

On the specs I've read and seen posted/listed on several sites the C&C has only been listed at 54 gallons.34 is whats on the standard Dodge diesels.Now 54 and 90 would be wonderful as long as the aux.is done correctly and no butch work.

I just checked the dodge website and it says you are able to opt for 22 gallon mid ship fuel tank. I wish they had put in the 54 gallon tank but I still have the 90 gallon tank. http://www.dodge.com/en/chassis_cab/features/capability.html

Ask to see invoice on the truck alone before the Western Hauler conversion.Also CALL some other dealers even in OTHER states.Carson Dodge in Los Vegas is a big truck mover and price them TRUCK for TRUCK before any conversion and start getting some ideas.Also tell the dealer your dealing with that the web is ate up with selling at INVOICE and applicable rebates and go from there.

Is the truck a true Western Hauler conversion, done in Ft. Worth, or does it just have a hauler western hauler type bed? If the conversion was done by Western Hauler, it probably has a lot of added equipment in addition to the bed and fuel tank. They put Link airride on a lot of their conversions and have upgraded seats, sound, etc. They do a good job and stand behind their work. Check out their website, and you can call them to get pricing on the conversion to get an idea of added cost to the base price.

$51,000 is a lot of "coins of the realm", but in my opinion, worth the money. I know they are dealing on some of the stuff, but the top of the line heavy stuff usually is "get what you pay for", and this rig will last MANY years!
(Wish I had the "do-rey-mee" to get one like that, I would kiss a frog, and probably even sleep with a skunk for it.)

The C&C with a Laramie package will be in the mid $30's I don't think Western Hauler has a package under $10K so I think you have them about as low as you are going to get them.

I have an '03 Chevvy Chassis/Cab that I can't wear out (yet).
I was able to get the platform bed I wanted & I built the sides for it myself.
There is a BIG difference in the underguts of it vs the pick_it_up with the bed_delete option. Be SURE to specify CHASSIS/CAB when ordering things like air springs, especially with web/mail order, or whatever you get at NAPA.
I think the pads and calipers are different, probably 4500 bits.
