THINKING ABOUT PURCHASING AN '03 CHEVY DURAMAX DIESEL 4X4. WAS THIS AN O.K. YEAR? ANY KNOWN PROBLEMS? I WOULD BE PURCHASING THE EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THIS. IT HAS ONLY 45,000 MILES. THANKS!!!

Only thing notable in my opnion is that most of them had or needed injector replacement. Most were covered under warranty. I had two '03 models and both got the replacements. Not a bad truck I dont think but I upgraded to an '05 that has been little better. I now have an '07 thats better than both of those together. Smoother in every aspect and alot more power. The new trucks with 6 speeds are very very nice to pull with.

THANKYOU ALL FOR YOUR RESPONSES! I CAN'T AFFORD ANYTHING NEWER SO THIS ONE WILL HAVE TO DO. AT ABOUT WHAT MILEAGE DID THE FUEL INJECTORS NEED TO BE REPLACED?

Better than the earlier ones, less money than the 6 speed ones.
The only trouble with MINE is that it hasn't deteriorated as much as (the blue book says) it has depreciated - so in my weird logic that says I'm suck with it (-:
In reality I'm HAPPY to be stuck with it, I didn't like the tow/haul control on the '05/'06 and the limited DIC display (vs the '03) is an annoyance because it reeks of CHEEEP !!!
I don't find the need for more than the 300 HP & whatever ft lbs torque, but I'm only hauling horses around and they don't like dragstrip starts anyway. There is no tiled bathroom, fridge, stove, a/c, etc.

Mine is not an 03, it is a 02 GMC 1 ton 4x4 crewcab dually with the Duramax/Allison. It just got a service today at 97,752 miles. Still on the original BRAKES! And they are in good shape! How cool is that! It didn't need tires until 72K miles. But, the injections did get replaced on a recall at 90K not because I was having a problem. This truck was never a daily driver and only used for hauling the trailers. It pulled a 27 ft 4 Star 3H LQ with a midtack for about 60K. It was retired to farm truck status at 86K so it only goes local with the boat, flatbed or stock trailer. I was gonna trade it but with this kind of service, I think I will keep it awhile!

03, 4x4, CC, Duramax, Allison. GM replaced injectors at @53,000 mi because of hard starting. Received a letter from GM extending the warranty on the injectors to 200,000 mi. Good truck.
