Hope all had good riding this weekend.  We had a terrible time with bees.  Saturday we ran into at least 6 swarms lot of stings on horses and people.  It was miserable.  Our group was apparently too large and bees were too plentiful.  Sunday's ride was better--still some bees but smaller group.  Here is looking forward to cooler weather and no bees.

The bees were bad at Brown County (Indiana) also. We got into some and the first few riders (of 5) stirred them up and unfortunatley my horse got the worst of it. They were all over him, I think I stayed on him for maybe 6 seconds before I came out of the saddle. I didn't have time to think of being hurt, I just got up, grabbed the reins and ran down the trail to get away from them. But I sure am feeling the fall now!  I am ready for them to go away!

We got into them real bad at Golden Hills last week.Several horses and riders stung, couple of riders thrown. No real injuries, one gal was stung over 30 times.

Wowee... remember that the first few riders are kinda safe from bees, then the last in line really get it good. I ran into some ground bees on a trail two years ago at Devil's Backbone in MO. when I was riding a two yr old gelding... he got stung so many times but stopped, allowed me to dismount and calmly walked out of it with me without having a fit. He had whelps all over his neck and head area... I broke a benadryl capsule and put it in my water bottle and gave it to him. I used my epi-pen for myself and didn't croak...

If anyone is allergic to bees GET AN EPI-PEN!! It could be too late to learn if you are way out on the trail and get stung.

Wow, sounds like most of your were lucky.  Going back down to Shawnee in two weeks and hoping for fewer bees.  We also have fewer riders--way fewer--so getting out of them shouldn't be as bad.  After my bout with them, I was sure to stay in the front of the pack for the rest of the day.

benadryl is over the counter;  need a script for epi pen but your regular doctor or nurse practitioner should have no problem writing the script.  I understand that there is also a new dissolving thingy of benadryl that you just pop in your mouth.  Got to find out about that.
