Hi everyone.
I have a fold down ball in one of my truck beds.
It seems that you can wiggle the ball just a little if you try.
Sometimes when I'm braking or accelerating (mainly braking), I can hear a little clunk noise coming from the bed. I'm thinking the noise is from the little bit of play that's in the ball.
Has anyone else experienced this?

It's a common problem if you haul very much with a fold down ball. The flip over ball don't seem to have this problem, so far.

It's funny, there are days that it does it frequently, and then many times where I don't hear it at all.
Anyone else have this happen?

We have one in each of our trucks (one is 'pop-up' brand), both have a lot of miles on them and neither have any play.

That's the reason I went back to the solid ones no wiggle and I put the fold down one twice in 5 years. I guess if you needed the bed to be clear it would make sence. But they coxt a lot more.

My brother in law ended up welding his fold-down ball solid to eliminate the play that developed in it.  I have not heard of any problems with the turnover type balls such as a B&W, or other similar ones, just the ones that folded down.

My fold down ball has a grease fitting on it and I noticed if I keep it greased and the ball lubed well I don't have any noise , but if the ball is dry or I pull another trailer that is rusty I get noise.
