Howdy all
I was looking for everyone's opinion on which type of trailer is a better trailer to tow. As far as weight distribution and safety factors etc. The BP or the GN.

IMHO.....the heavier the trailer is, the GN will show its advantages. A BP will show its disadvantages.

Dealers have been telling me that it's like the "dog wagging it's tail" for the GN and the "tail wagging the dog" on a bumper pull. They say that you are in so much more control with the GN. It does make sense because of the portion that's over your vehicle, while the BP just tags along behind the car.

Earlier this year I bought my first GN after having a BP for a few years. The difference is AMAZING. The GN is so much more stable and easier to pull and I won't ever go back to a BP. Now, backing up is another issue! I just had my BP figured out and could back it around pretty easily. Still figuring out my GN though.....

The gooseneck trailer is easier to handle and keep stable, i.e. "on track".
Weight distribution is different, the truck "carries" a larger percentage of the trailer's weight and carries it at a point a few inches ahead of the rear axle.
"Safety factor" is some fuction of how far within the limitations of the equipment and prevailing conditions someone drives - or how close to the edge they drive.
As an example, I once towed a disabled pick-up truck with it's rear wheels on a tow dolly. The thing was so unstable that I wouldn't go above 45 MPH, but the arrangement was "Very SAFE" because I stayed WELL WITHIN it's limitations.

I too, started out first with a small bumper pull. I learned to pull and back that fairly well. Then I was introduced to the GN. I will tell ANYONE that asks me, GN is THE way to go. I am much more comfortable both pulling and backing the GN. I will NEVER go back to BP. I understand that you gotta' do what you gotta' do, but my recommendation would always be, get a GN over a BP. I have also gotten much more comfortable pulling a longer GN versus a short one. Ye-ha!

If you have the truck, well then definitely GN. I have found that most people who have bumper pulls simply have it because they are have one of those big old gas guzzling SUVs and are trying to justify it! (I have been guilty of that myself!)

Have to say I Love our new day ride 2 horse BP its Sundowner with dressing room.Since fuels so pricey I been camping less since Lqs trailer sucks down gas.Its of course gn 3 horse(in pic by name).

i have a bp. i wont even stray into the "safety" factor, thats up to the driver. i have 2 horses, all i do is trail ride, takes an hour to get there. size, cost, and i didnt have a truck at the time, all had a hand in my decison. i dont consider 6000# "heavy" (neither does my new to me truck) so that argument does not apply to me. i personally wouldnt waste my time with a 2 horse gn, so that means id have to buy at least a 3 horse then i would end up with another horse...........so i guess this is my opinon, if i had more than 2 horses i would look at a gn pretty hard, for what im doing with only 2 horses im not going to spend my time or money on a gn. although im sure im in the minority.

Have both and like both but the BP that have a little lenth to them areeasier to handle than the real short ones. Easier to back and pull. The GN is a LQ 3H and the bumper is a 2H 4' change room. When you are pulling a BP with a Dually you don't know its back there. The BP is easier and quicker to hook up and it takes less fuel to pull.

I have both also, use the BP for short trips to ride with friends or go to the vet. I prefer GN but don't have a problem pulling either one. Don't think I would want to pull the BP several hundred miles tho. Like my LQ on the road, readily available bathroom!!!
