Received a quote on insuring my LQ horse trailer. Never have insured a trailer before, just went with liability. Trailer is 33' with 10 ft sw lq. Does $139 for 6 mos. sound fair? That's comp and collision. Comp only $63. value of trl about $35k. Thanks for comments.

I'm paying close to $300 for 6 mths on a similiar trailer. Is your Insurance company local or national? If national, need name and phone number. Maybe able to get better rate.

I have a two horse with mid-tack and a weekender package (everything except a built in toilet). I pay $100 for 6mo. with State Farm and I thought that was high, because I pay $126 per year for my 26Ft 5th wheel. Sounds like maybe my price isn't so bad!javascript:smilie('32','');32

My insurance carrier is Geico. They are national. Hope that gets you a better rate. We have been with Geico for 18 years and have an excellent driving record. I'm sure they take many things into consideration. The rate also includes multi-car discount. Good luck.

we have a 3 horse bp/ 2006 aluminum. I called our insurance carrier and they said that it is covered under the trucks insurance. Value 16K. perhaps I am missing something and need to look into this.
We camp with the trailer but it is always hooked up to the truck. I suppose theft could pose a problem. Would'nt that be aweful!

You shouldn't have to pay anything extra for liability it is on the towing vehicle. The only charge should be for comp and collision and it is on a stated dollar amount. Your tack should be covered on your homeowners policy. What that means is that if your trailer comes loose and strikes another vehicle or property you truck liability will pay for fixing what the trailer hits but not the trailer, that's where the comp and collision come into play.

I have a 2003 Hart Ultimate, 10' LQ, 3 horse. Insured for 44k, I pay 646.00 a year on it. Includes coverage for thief. It's thru Equipment Insurance International. Have my tractor insured with them too.

Longearsrule, call who you have your truck ins. with, youshould be able to cut that in half. If they don't have a good rate also have them quote it as a travel trailer. With the company I am with it used to be cheaper to do it as a travel trailer but now they are the same. It has to have full LQ to be as a travel trailer though. I have a 2005 Hart 12LQ ins 50K mine is about 185 every 6 mo.

iCE CRM, who do you have yours with? On the trailer I had before this one I checked with my truck insurance co. and they were way higher than Equipment Insurance. I have changed auto ins. company now, but didn't think to check with them on the new one The previous trailer was a Sundowner with 10' LQ also. Always looking for better rates!!!

Yea, my insurance told me the same and I thought nothing about it till the steering went out on the truck and we totaled the trailer (no horses). Since the truck and trailer hit a concrete median there were no damages to pay for except the trailer which the agent then told me wasn't covered under the truck policy. Would not even pay to tow the trailer. You do have insurance under your truck policy but only for what it hits. Your agent is doing you a disservice.

Barry is correct, liability coverage is provided by the towing vehicle's insurance, but if you want comprehensive and collision coverage, you have to pay additional for this coverage.
Also, if the trailer is used for commercial purposes, then coverage may not automatically come from the towing vehicle, but if the trailer is used for personal hauling, then this is normally the case.

That's interesting about travel trailer vs. horse trailer rates. I have State Farm and pay $350 for 6 months on $35 K 2005 Bison 3 horse, 10 ft LQ w/ slideout. I'll hsvr to check w/ my agent.
