Do any of you know of a stock/combo trailer that has a taller gooseneck area. I am looking to sell my 5th wheel when we get a horse or stock/combo trailer and put in a lq., however I really would like a taller 'bedroom' area than what I see in most horse trailers.  The end object would be a gooseneck with the lqs like a 5th wheel, but with the ability to not only haul the horses, but when just camping to be able to haul the polaris and the kayacks in the 'horse area'. Any help is appreciated!! Brenda

Hi ... Just a thought... Are you aware that a GN horse hitch and a 5th wheel RV hitch are two different hitch types?  When you get a GN horse trailer, you'll have to get a 2 5/16th ball hitch in the bed of your truck.

the 5th wheel we have has a gooseneck conversion on it.. so the gooseneck in the bed of my truck works great.. and want to stay with that, I dont want to change out to a 5th wheel hitch.. just want one trailer instead of several..

I may be wrong (probably), but the tallest I know of are the thoroughbred style trailers. Our Hawk is 7' 6" tall, and a little taller in the gooseneck area. (I've heard (rumor?) that someone is making a warmblood trailer that's 8' tall)

Really, the gooseneck area is usually just a sleeping area anyway, how much height are you looking for? I can measure the height in our gooseneck if you'd like to know what it is.

I have seen a few on here that had a raised roof over the gooseneck, but that has been a while back, and I couldn't tell you what kind it was. I know that Leonard's had a really big fancy Cimmaron (I think it was) at Congress last year with the raised roof, but that one was way too fancy for the average person (or even the above average person) to afford at $219,999.99. Really awesome trailer, 3 slide outs, 2 queen beds and a 52" widescreen tv, full kitchen and bathroom, but it's either the house or the trailer, not both!!!!

I thought maybe some of the dealers would be making the horse trailer with the taller bedroom area for people who dont want to crawl around on their knees. I figured it would be about the same as the 5th wheel travel trailers. Just a bit hard on these old bones to have to climb up there and crawl around. I may have to figure out a different place for the bed and just use the nose for storage.

From what I've seen while looking at trailers, there are a lot of trailer manufacturers that will build to your specs.  They might be a little higher priced, but if you're paying that kind of money for a new trailer anyway, might as well get what you want.

I think they should offer a "pop up" over the sleeper.  Like they do with the truck campers.  That way you have the lower profile while driving, but some head room when you need it.

One thing you might try is finding an older trailer, maybe built about 10 yrs ago. From what I've observed, the trailer manufacturers started making their gooseneck areas shorter (by raising the floor) to accommodate the taller 4X4 trucks we have today. When the trucks got jacked up the goosenecks couldn't fit over the truck rails safely, so they started taking space out of the gooseneck (sleeping) area. They didn't opt to raise the whole trailer roof height...too expensive. My older trailer seems to have 6"-12" more sleeping space height than today's trailers. Of course, if you do find an old trailer, you'll need to be aware of how high your truck is and whether it'll fit.....Lots of posts on this site about that dilemma!

I guess I just never paid attention to the fact that they were not made where you could walk up into the gooseneck area.... and why not??? At least where you can walk around the bed.. which is on a frame.. although in the 5er we have to bend over to walk.. but when sitting on the bed you sit upright.. looking at pictures it seems like a lot of the trailers are the same height there in the goose neck.. so why not?? Will look into some of the taller horse trailers.. and see if some of the local places can make it with a bit more head room ... thanks for all your help.. off to do more research! Brenda

Check out the Silver Lite trailers.  Their Spirit models have as standard features a 9" rise in the roof over the gooseneck and a slide-out.  Very affordable slide-out, high quality workmanship.   www.silverlite.com

I think a lot of the "why not ?" is due to the agricultural origins of horse trailers.
"Why not sleep in one ?"
"Why not build a camper section in the front end ?"
("Why WOULD you ?")
etc.

I see RV 5'th wheelers coming at me and often think,
"Gee, that must be pushing a whole lotta air."
I think it wouldn't be any more expensive, perhaps even cheaper, to make the whole trailer taller, it would probably be simpler/easier to build properly without the bump-up over the goose section.

I like horses - a whole LOT !
but I don't sleep with them in the barn at home, so sleeping with them on the road doesn't hold much appeal for me (as I said, "for ME").
I prefer real beds, room service, stuff like that (-:

I hear you Reg- there was a time that if the show was close enough, I'd go home for the night rather than stay at the show grounds in the trailer. I liked my own bed, bath and shower. of course those days are gone.

I saw a Horton trailer recently and it appeared the gooseneck height was greater than other trailers. It looked as if a smaller person could stand up in the thing...well maybe a kid.

We just bought a Silverlite yesterday in Hunstville, The trailer store. They still have a few 05 models they are selling out. Great deals. Has the raised roof and slide out...lots of room and very innovative with the LQ...Good Luck

I have a Horton and the gooseneck area is really tall.  Granted, I am only 5'3" but I have had freinds up there helping me move stuff and they seem to have no problem.  It sure makes it seem less cramped.
