Please sit down before reading.
First I want to say that the people I bought the trailer from said it had a tag on it that said the trialer weighed 9700. Second, my buddy looked the weight up on a blue book trailer guide and he said that the trialer should weigh 11700. So I figured that the king pin weight should be max of around 3000 or so. I figured 11700 X .25.
Now I figured I would go weigh my truck and find out how much the trailer weighs and to find out my king pin weight.
Now keep in mind that I have a 2500 HD with airbags and a diesel/allison.
The first weigh in was 4300 front tires/7600 back tires/8760 trailer tires.
Now I've weighed my truck and it comes to 3940 front tires/2740 back tires.
That makes my trialer almost 14K and a king pin weight of 4860!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The next weigh in with the trailer (made some load and GN adjustments) came out like this. 4240 front tires/ 7140 back tires/9060 trailer tires. This is a little better but I'm still at around 4400 king pin weight on the truck.
Is this even close to normal or is this just stupid crazy? I personally think it is nuts and I'm glad I weighed the trailer so I can now justify buying a new truck. Now the bigger question.......What truck is going to be enough? I don't even think a 3500 dually will do the job.
Any ideas or thoughts? Now keep in mind that I bought the trailer across country and was given information that wasn't exactly correct. BTW. I did haul the trailer from Oklahoma City to Phoenix with no problems and it pulled like a dream.

You didn't say the year of your truck or the config so I'll just quote from the 2001 trailering guide.
The max trailer weight for a ext cab, 8 foot bed is 15,500 pounds. The hitch weight or king pin weight up to 3,000 lbs on 2500HD or 3,500 lbs on 3500 models. Base model 2WD payload 3920 on 2500HD or 5748 lbs on 3500

As a follow-up to my previous post. Seems like GM doesn't want anymore than 3500 pounds on the frame of a 3500 dually even though the payload is 5700 pounds.
Looks like you should move up to a class 4 or 5 truck.

Go with a medium duty. I have a Kodiak 4500 and will never pull a big trailer with a 3/4 or dually again, if I can help it. The stability of these trucks is awesome. I really love the increased braking capacity, especially with the exhaust brake. If you don't have to have all the bells and whistles the price is actually not much more than a loaded dually. Just my .02

I was actually surprised at how cheap the bigger trucks are. Not that they are cheap but I was expecting 80K+ but they are just a bit more than a dually.
I think I really need to make it to a dealership really fast.
I know why Reg hasn't replied yet. He fell off of his seat and hasn't gotten back up yet after reading my first post. Give him a day or two to recover and he will be fine.
