Does anyone know of a web site where the trailers are sold by mostly by individuals? A friend of mine traded a trailer and got 22,500.00 for it, the dealer sold it three days later for 28k.

I bet they made more than that onthe one they sold them also. Of course they could have had to sit on it for a year also and not turned it in 3 days and had 22,500 of their money tied up. It is a business, good and bad

Also, if there's a hidden problem or failure a dealer will typically handle it. A sale by individual is not going to carry the same liability in this litigous (sp?) society. Dealer has more risk and he must account for that.

I dispute weather a trailer dealer has more to "risk" than an individual does, I sell at least a trailer a year, and usually take trade-ins. You can bet that if I misrepresent on of them that the buyer has the same legal channels to deal with me that they would have with a dealer. As far as hidden or unknown problems with a trailer, I think a dealer should know what to look for with different brands of trailers, if they don't then shame on them. I would also hope that just because a dealer or an individual can turn a profit on a trailer weather it be new or used is not held against them(we do still live in a capitalistic society).

I don't mean to argue with you on this point, and I must say the last few trailers I have sold I put an add on both sites and if I was going to sell one today I would put an add on both sites (I don't just want to see pictures of my trailers on the net I want to sell them). But, the question patti asked was for a website were "Most of the adds were individuals" I looked at the "other site" and yours and this is what I come up with, You have had 880 new adds in the last week, They have have had 115 new adds. You win the big prize. Now of there 115, 6 were dealer adds, 2 were for other than trailers. So that makes 107 "individual adds". Your is harder to determine but just using the first 3 pages you average 3 individual adds per page so 22 pages in the new section would estimate 66 individual adds out of 880. So as far as the original question they have mostly individual adds. You have a larger selection of trailers no arguement on that, but they have a larger selection of Used Trailers for sale by Individuals, and there are alot of us that feel the better deals are found in that group of trailers. It's your sandbox, and a fun one to play in. I hope I didn't step on any toes.

My toes are bullet proof but thanks for asking. When counting, make sure you know how old those ads are. I've seen sites with trailers over a year old in them.
As for better deals . . . here's what I've found. Like cars, a lot of people may pay too much when they buy, in addition, they pay thousands in financing. Two or three years later they want another trailer. Guess what. They're upside down.
I can't tell you how many individuals ask me each week why their trailer won't sell. I tell them it's too high and they tell me they have to get that much because that's how much they owe!
They end up trading them in to a dealer . . . and the dealer can actually sell them for less than the individual, offer financing, and a warranty to boot.
But I know what you are saying . . . I think all of us still look for the barely used trailer that is subject to a custody battle in a divorce case and must be liquidated in 48 hours for any reasonable offer. Getting a "steal" is the American Dream.
