Im looking for input on which way to make a move from Northern Virginia to the San Diego area of California.
Do I hire a horse moving company or buy and truck and trailer to make the move and then re-sell it when I get there?
I'm completely comfortable doing it myself as i've read some horror stories about what the horses go through. My mare is 21 this year and I've had her since she was a baby. I have an estimate of almost 3200. to ship which is decent as I want a box stall and an air ride with no layover in holding pens with God knows what else. So I'm open to any ideas.

I have no experience with it but...............if I were comfortable with a transport company, I think I would leave the driving to them. If you plan on selling a truck and trailer when you are done, you stand an unquantified potential loss on the resale. With the shipper, you know what you are looking at. Plus just the time/expense/hassle of hauling across country. I've faced the same equation when purchasing trailers or RVs from the midwest and I always come down on the side of "bring it to me". My opinion only. Good luck with your move.

We just moved from ny to nc and moved our own. But we own a 4 horse trailer and a truck so it wasnt worth having a company move them. I wouldnt buy a truck/trailer just for move. Isnt it once a car leaves a lot it loses value? Would be better to google and google somemore and find a good company

Thanks for all the opinions. I do have a Jeep Cherokee that I could pull a lightweight trailer behind. It still seems like an arduous task as it would take me about a week. I know there are overnight stay places for horses all across the country. In the end I might not fair any better financially and she may have just as much stress if I'm doing the hauling...hmmmm what to decide!

Do not do it in the summer and avoid the first 2 weeks of February looks cold.
Other than that I can't offer any advice, I always do the driving but never that far.

I use a fellow who is out of the amish to haul horses if it is not timely, he us normally going back and forth accross the country, and if you can handel not having the horse go straight through he is much cheaper than most of the haulers i have used and he goes coast to coast about every other month his name is norman and his number is three one nine 4 oh 4-1196 he is planning to come out in a couple of weeks to so ca so give him a call.

House?---you can legally resell the truck in california, as long as it is not a HDT or MDT older than 2007 ------------ What is HDT or MDT? This are terms I am not familiar with

The movers supply safe and reliable trucks through which all the items are transported safely without damage. Moving involves a lot of work. It is impossible to remember everything. While moving to a new place, the first name come to the mind is professional movers. Recently my uncle has moved to new place with the help of movers NYC. He was very happy with their work as well they even help for unpacking and shifting the items and were very helpful and of friendly nature. Nothing was damaged or broken, they took very good care of the fragile items as well.
