would very much like to know what type/brand of stock tank heaters you use. I use a 75 gal. Rubbermaid tank with the Universal Drain Plug de-icer made by Allied Precision industries. One usually last just a little over a year, [4 months of use] then shorts out and starts shocking the horses . Of course it is easy to see that the horses aren't drinking and obvious what the problem is when they walk up to the tank and just stare at the water. I replace the heater but it is difficult to get them to start drinking out of the tank again. Anyhow, was hoping to find something better. would appreciate your advice or experiences

We use those drop ins after the drainplug heater fails.... but, I worry about stray current. Some of our horses on that tank aren't drinking enough until it is un-plugged?? I don't trust any of them. Our automatic waterers work well and don't freeze.... we just need one more.

I use the Farm Innovators ice chaser drop in type. They have legs that stand them off the bottom of the plastic tubs we use and I get one winter out of them but in the years we used them we've never had a problem or failure and it keeps all of ours drinking. I like that they only come on when the water temp hit's 32 degrees so they are not running 24/7.
