Why is Bison using spring axles on their lower end trailers instead of torsion axles? Are there any benefits?

They are probably using them because they are less expensive. Some pros for springs over torsion axles:

There is always more even pressure on both axles over rough terrain or steep angles, whereas with torsion axles, each wheel is independent, so sometimes one wheel may get the entire weight of that side of the trailer.

They don't bend as easily as torsion axles. Partially due to the above statement, and partially due to the geometry of the arm on the torsion axles.

That makes sense. I knew they were cheaper, just not used to anyone using them on a LQ trailer.

Because of their unrestrained rebound actions, you will end up with a rougher ride than that furnished by a torsion bar suspension. If shock absorbers were also installed with the springs, the rides would be better controlled.

What restricts the rebound on torsion axles?

JDZAHARIA is correct. Bison was using them on their entry line to help defray some of the cost. They have since gone to torsion axles across the board. There is still a contingent of people that prefer the leaf spring axles though. Personally I prefer the smoother ride of the torsion axles. Thad
