I am in the process of ordering a new horse trailer and would appreciate some input. I currently have a 10.5 lq 3 horse 7 wide 7.5 tall with oversize tack and has a slide out. I am only moving up to a 12.5 lq and staying with the 7wide 7.5 tall with the slide out.The owner of the trailer company suggested I go ahead and put in mangers in the 7 wide. Said they are doing it all the time now and everyone loves them. I have not seen mangers in a 7 wide so am curious if anyone else has them. I am also thinking about adding a sliding tack that pulls out in front of my third stall. It pulls out about 5 feet and holds 900 pounds on the sliding rack. If I do that it will take away from having a door between the horse area and lq. Probably not a real problem. They also now have a generator that fits in the manger that pulls or slides out when you run it. Has anyone seen anything like that. Said the roof top models have gotten too expensive. Any suggestions on things to add please comme

I have a 7 wide Trailswest, they work fine, plenty of extra storage and we always leave real early and the horses eat their breakfast on the way. It's also easy to offer water on the road by placing buckets on the feeder at rest stops. Get the mangers

I think that a 7' wide trailer is too narrow for mangers. 7'6" would be the narrowest I would go. In my opinion, horses are too crammed in there - 8' wide is the best with mangers. Also, be careful with putting a generator in the mangers - I know a lot of people who have done this and they say that the generators run hotter in there because they are all closed in......and you have to be careful where the exhaust comes out. You probably won't be able to tie a horse over there.

I wouldn't put mangers in a 7 wide. The 8' wide will also give you more "LQ space for a just a little more money. I have seen generators in mangers but they are much easier to work on (change oil, etc) up top and will be cooler and exhaust is higher

The generator will be on a sliding drawer that pulls out and is used on the outside of the trailer. So it should not interfere except for tying a horse that close to the generator if it is pulled out.

Just acquired lightly used 2008 (titled in 2011) Trails West 8x13 w/ slide Sierra 3 HS 7w 7.5h. Generator. Mangers. Nice. Top of the line interior. Trails West trailers do have a little more length behind the rear axles than most trailers. Plus a 13 short wall instead of 12. The added length is do to the slant being more angled which enables room for mangers and not crowd the horses. We haul palominos ranging from 15.2 - 16.3. We did add some padding. Mangers add so much more convenient storage and we didn't want an 8 wide.

FWIW- Those that I've worked on were meant to slide out for service. They are to be inside manger and the slide bolted closed to operate.

And for standard saddle type horses mangers in a 7'W seem to work well. The manger is typically narrower, so you don't get as much storage, but it doesn't take up any more room than a feed bag does.
