can anyone give me your thoughts or ideas on pulling a 2 horse trailer (3000-4500 lbs) with a 30' class C motor home, Ford V10 engine. It has the towing package on it. I'm concerned about enough power to pull hills and Mtns. Thanks for any advise.

There are so many variations on motor home chassis, that this is difficult to answer over the internet. On the drivers door jam there should be a label affixed by the motor home manufacture that can answer the rated tow capacity. This will differ then the one that was affixed by ford, since the chassis has been modified by the RV builder. By my own research a few years ago I found very very few class C motor homes (only one really) that are rated with enough tow capacity to handle a horse trailer. I've seen it many times in camp grounds, but I don't recommend it.

As I recall, there was a tragic accident in Texas involving a motor home pulling a trailer. I believe the motor home's hitch frame was not substantial enough to handle the trailer.

I have been thinking about going to a class A for the room, then pulling an alum. 2 horse slant with and getting rid of the LQ horse trailer. But my biggest concern is the distance between the rear axle and hitch. Looks to me like the longer the frame hangs out the weaker it would be. That bring me back to realizing how much I love my horse more than I want the room!

I found several big diesel pusher class A's that have enough tow capacity, but those units were in the 38-45 foot range on bus chassis and I just didn't want that big.

Using a trailer toad will remove the weight from the hitch, basically turning your trailer into a wagon. You still have to have the horsepower to pull it, but it does eliminate the problem of too much weight on the hitch.
