Will someone please tell me what this means: GVW is 10,400? Thanks.

GVW stands for Gross Vehicle Weight. Is there not an R at the end? Like GVWR. That would mean Rating, typically how it's expressed on the door tag.

When I've seen GVW, it's usually printed on a scale sheet indicating how much my vehicle weighted.

If you were wondering the other expression is GCVW, the C stands for combined and is the weight of both truck and trailer.

My situation is that I would like to upgrade from my all steel 2h goose neck to a 3h all aluminum goose neck. All I want to know is what the difference in the weight of the trailers would be. I called the manufacturer of a particular 3h alum and they said the trailer weighs 10,500lbs but the seller said it weighs about 3,500lbs. Does anyone know approx how much a 2h steel goose neck trailer weighs versus a 3h aluminum goose neck with no conversions?

Because of the variables of manufacturing it would be  impossible to give a accurate weight of those trailers.    I would find a truck stop scale and then you know exactly.

There is no way a 3h aluminum trailer would weight only 3,500 lbs. Maybe 3,500 lbs of tongue weight, but that's only part of the equation you need to decide if your truck can handle it. I've had both steel and aluminum trailers. Just because it's aluminum doesn't equal lighter. The manufactures have to put more material into aluminum trailers since aluminum is softer then steel and would flex too much if they didn't.

Another option I've used for weighting a trailer is your local feed supply. Our MFA feed supply leaves their scale on and the display can be seen through the window.

Old thread on light weight trailers... http://www.horsetrailerworld.com/forum/thread-view.asp?threadid=15171&posts=8

An Exiss trailer weight chart on this page.. http://www.exiss.com/assets/brochure-document/Exiss-2011-Slantload-GN-Brochure-WEB.pdf

Exiss 6300 CX has 2' short wall DR, 6'8" wide, 7' tall and a estimated weight of 3980#, that's a stripped down bare trailer with no rear tack.. Eclipes, Nextrail or Shadow may have something lighter but not by much... What make is this light 3 horse gooseneck..??

Retento...the chart was very helpful, cleared up alot of questions. I'm sure each manufacturer has different weights but it gave me a ball park figure, give or take. Now all I need is to find out how much a typical 2h steel goose neck weighs.

There are MFA feed stores scattered across Missouri, the one I've used is in Columbia.

Wow I'm surprised by that weight chart. I had a 3H 10' SW 4Star trailer, it weight 9,800 lbs empty.
