I just lucked into a used Hawk 2 horse BP with dress. The person I bought it from was towing with a Chevy 1500 with a straight hitch. I have a 3/4 ton Chevy with a higher bumper. Looks to be about a 2" differnce, so I'm thinking 2" drop hitch, but was wondering if anyone has this combo and knows already for sure? I have to use it on Sunday and have only 4 precious hours to get it correct tomorrow before the trailer store closes.

Set the trailer level, by using the jack, Measure the height from the ground to the tongue. Compare to your truck and buy a hitch to compensate for the difference. Even if you are off an inch of two, It's not a disaster.

I know how to do it after the fact. Problem is I have to show up at the barn tomorrow with the right hitch, or I'm screwed. There will likely not be enough time to back track to the trailer store if I guess wrong. I did a ballpark measurement with the trailer parked in the field which is why I am guessing 2" drop.

If you can put the same amount of weight into the bed as the tongue weight, BEFORE you make your final vertical measurement, you will get a much more accurate result. Most hitches will drop somewhat under a load. Without knowing that amount, you cannot make a precise adjustment.
The only other way is to change the adjustment after the hitch has been connected, and the drop is again measured.
