Anyone know why the heat strip won't turn on from the thermostat but the a/c will?

Could be the heating element has gone bad. The over temp thermal fuse may have failed. The electronics that control the heating element may have failed. I would begin checking them in the order I typed. Most heating elements are 1500W so you should see about 10 ohms resistance across the element contacts.
