Any hints on putting in a new anode rod?? It's the correct one, but am having a heck of a time getting it in. Got it in once and it leaked, so iam guessing i didn't have it in all the way, but i simply can't turn it any more. Just getting it lined up was a project. Took it back out after the leaking and i can't get it in. Should i be using the white teflon tape, and if i use it, should i put it around the whole thread? Is there a secret to this project???

Install two turns of tape onto the threads in the direction the threads loosen. When the rod is screwed into the boss, the tape will then remain in place.

If you try to use only an extention and socket to insert the rod, the inside rod end will droop and the threads can end up being cross threaded. I use a large pair of water pump pliers, holding the end and turning it to first thread it correctly into the boss. When it has been threaded aprox one turn, then I use a socket and ratchet to torque the rod. You have to be careful about cross threading the rod.
