This is a little hard to explain, but I will try. My Kiefer trailer has aluminum channel for uprights in the wall. I would like to rip down a 2 x 4, and insert it in the slot. I would then drill through the channel 2 x 4 and out the other side of the channel. In sert a bolt in the hole securing the 2 x 4. I already have some seasoned lumber that I would like to screw on the ripped 2 x 4's. They would be running parallel to the floor. I would insulate between the walls of course. Will this plan work? It seems easier than hitting the tiny lip on the channel with a self tapping screw to secure the wall covering to the channel. Any input would be appreciated. Gard if your out there help me out. I also want to secure 5 v tin to the cieling. Will the self tapping screws used to screw it to a barn roof work for this as well?

The strips inserted into the studs is a workable construction. It might be easier to drill holes on alternating sides of the channels to affix the lumber into the stud. It would be easier and less expensive than a complete thru hole and the cost of bolts. You could use self tapping stainless sheet metal screws. Purchase the square drive heads and you'll end up with less cam out when they're installed.

If you have furring strips added to the ceiling, the self drilling steel screws should work to affix the steel sheet metal.

Here's a source of the screws. They are available in lengths from 5/8" to 2".

Predrill the holes in the aluminum studs.

Gard,I thought about screwing the tin straight to the roof channel. If I need furing strips I will. Would it work screwed to it with out the furring strips? I would get more insulation in your way, but the roof air wouldnt seem to line up right with the additional depth of the furring strips.

The AC's interior trim piece can be replaced with one of a deeper depth. Or you can modify any open gaps of the furring strips, with some prepainted aluminum trim placed underneath the OEM trim piece.

This is the way we finished off an interior ceiling, after installing furring strips, insulation, and Luan plywood covered with an automotive headliner material. We cut some AL strips to cover the exposed structure around the AC box's interior, and then covered those bottom edges with the factory supplied trim piece. It resulted in a nicely finished appearance.
