I am trying to rewire my trailer to fit the stupid 7 prong on my truck. There are only 6 wires coming out of my trailer and there is no auxilary wire for back up lights Hart trailer has black for brakes, red is right turn, yellow running lights, green left turn, blue is ground and brown is labeled as auxillary and on the truck it is plugged into the positive terminal. Everything works but my interior lights, and outside lights do not come on. I have printed out the diagrams but cannot figure out where my stinking wires go. I had no problems with this when it was hooked to my motor home because it had that same old tiny 6 prong thing. Help me please

Do you have an ohm meter or continuity checker?

What kind of truck?  If a Ford, the interior lights and other items off of the positive connection on the truck will only work when the key is on.

Sounds like Hart uses their own colors for wiring. I would double check that. On my Elite the ground is white, brake is red, lights are brown, hot is black, left turn is yellow, right is green and auxillary is blue.

I can't remember the Hart colors off the top of my head, but I can confirm they are different than "standard".

I always use a battery charger, connect the black to trailer ground and put a small wire in the other connector, now connect each wire one at a time, and see what comes on, and connect that to your truck wiring. It would help if you have an ohm-meter to check for the ground connection on the plug before starting, just in-case your charger isn't a current limited kind....good luck

Ditto on the battery charger. Clip the negative to a ground on the trailer, clip the positive lead to a common nail. Insert the nail into any of the pin sleeves. Most battery chargers have a protective circuit with an auto reset, to prevent damage to themselves if there is a short to ground.

This is a fast way to isolate individual circuits, and doesn't require replacing or finding blown fuses if there is any shorting.

First of all, lets make sure you haven't blown a fuse on your truck, and you have power to the trailer receptacle on your truck. If you don't have a test light or a meter, buy one. With the test light, clip the black lead to a clean metal area on the bumper. Lift the cover and touch the pointed end of the test light to the terminal that is in the one o'clock position. Depending on the make of your truck you might have to have your lights on, or your key turned on. If you reply with the make of your truck, someone will tell you if you have to add a fuse, have the lights on, or have the key in the proper position. Now if you touch the terminal, and the test light lights, the problem is in the trailer wiring. I went to the Hart website and downloaded their trailer manual, and you are right they use a different wiring code. From 2007 they used 7 wires coming from the trailer, and the right and left wiring is opposite of what you mentioned. The two previous post about using the battery charger to provide power to find circuits is perfect.
