We travel to lots of day shows where we tie to and show out of our trailer. For the most part we show up with everything we need; our own bathroom, power, food, and so on. The one thing we don't bring is water for the horses. Sometimes there is a hydrant 2 feet away and sometime it seems like it's closer to two miles away. Just wondering if and how others carry water for their horses. I need to measure my fresh water tank this morning but I am thinking it's 40 gallons. If that is the case I think I may just put a valve on the tank and use this for water for both the horses and the LQ. We generally haul two horses so 20 to 30 gallons of water would go a long ways. Other than the toliet we really don't use the water for much else. Will 10 gallons of water flush the toliet 20 times in a day or more?

I bought a tank that goes in the back of my pickup. It can go ahead of the gooseneck ball or behind it. It is v'd in the center for the gooseneck. It hauls 63 gallon and kept three horses watered for three days.

I haul a couple of tanks in the bed of the truck, as well. Total of about 45 gallons. We don't show, but we camp and ride. When our 2 horses were really being worked, this only lasted 2 1/2 days.
I like the convenience of the tank being in the bed so you can drive to a filling spot instead of carrying it by hand in case you run out early.

On the LQ, we have a water tank on the hayrack. I carry a 5 gallon container of water in the tack area of the 2 horse when on search and rescue. Folks will bring us more at the scene if needed, but I like to have the ability to give her the first drink or two of the water she is accustomed to, trying to ensure she does drink before being offered strange water that she might wait til super dry to drink.

The Logan XT and XTR trailers like mine come with a 35 gallon horse water tank in the tack room in addition to the water stored for the LQ. But 4 horses will drink 35 gallons in a day or day and half. So when I'm camping in remote areas, I need to bring more, or at least something I can take and refill.
My brother-in-law runs a dairy and his disinfectant for the milking machines comes in 15 gallon mini barrels. I've gathered a number of those from his trash pile. Flushed them out good and usually line 3 of them up behind my cab. that gives me 45 gallons, plus the 35 gallons in the trailer = 80 gallons. That will usually last me thru a weekend in the desert with 4 horses. Another trailer I used to own had a 35 gallon tank up in the hay rack, I lked that because the height gave me a little water pressure if I wanted to run some water over the horses to wash sweat off.

If I am at a show for the day I can drain some water from my tank in the LQ for the horse. Its simple as there is a small plastic drain tube just under the trailer by the camper door, I turn a value at the tank, set the bucket under and allow it to fill. Since I only bring one horse to a show we aren't talking about much water. I probably fill up a small bucket- maybe 2 gallons..twice..unless its really hot. I don't use it for much else and since most day shows don't have eletrical hook ups ( or I won't pay 20 bucks to have it for a few hours) I don't use the water for clean up- I carry a few gallon jugs of water for that. If the show has a water spicket near by I'll use that.

I don't think I would attempt to water the horses with the water for the LQ...I don't know about the rest of you but I personally do not drink or cook with the water from the fresh water holding tank.. I have water jugs& tanks I fill specifically for the horses... and they are alsohauled in the bed of the truck.

I throw one of these 125 gallon Snyder plastic tanks in the bed of the truck between the back of the cab and gooseneck hitch if we're going to be away for a week or so.... I always give it a shot of Clorox bleach when I fill....

I have a 35 gallon tank on the hay rack, plus I have a water spigot (like on the outside of your house) on my trailer. If I am camping I use the tank on the hay rack for the horses and save the camper water for showers. If I am at a show for the day, I will use the living quarters water. It does not take alot water for the toilet. I have also used the hayrack tank to refill the camper water when we are out for several days. With that tank up in the air so high it will gravity feed to the other tank.
