We may have the oppurtunity to go to Nebraska in May,and I would like to also go on to broken arrow. I know the camp opens May 1rst. just wondering if anyone has camped that time of year? They say the temps. will range 45-55. We would be there around May 10th. Just wondering what to expect?

I would call Broken Arrow and talk to Gerri or Larry (the owners) and ask them about the weather. They are super nice people. We were out there in the beginning of July this year and had a great time. Make sure you bring you a compass, it helps you when you are reading the map. Just gotta ad that when we were there we ran our air conditioner and the furnace.

Thanks for the info. I spoke with the owners of Broken Arrow and they gave me the weather information. If we go to Nebraska we'll surely go on to Broken Arrow campground. The reason for the trip is that we have a chance to help with spring round up,and my husband thinks that would be a wonderful oppurtunity. Since we would be that far I want to go on to South Dakota.

I loved the campground and corrals for the horses. We are making plans to back again this coming summer, just trying to figure out dates when we can get away.

dawnb----- Just wondering if you can ride near Mt.Rushmore from camp? Or do you trailer over? I have read different post and wasn't quite sure. Do you have any suggestions on the trails?
Thanks

YOu would have to trailer over there. Broken Arrow does have a trailer you can rent so you don't have to break camp. This year was the first time we were there. Loved all the trails that we were on. Bring a compass to help you read the map unless you are good at reading maps and have a good sense of direction. The first day there we rode with another group of people that showed us how to read the map and look for the trail markers. We then rode by ourselves or with other people. We had a very nice ride over to the BLue Belle Inn. We ate dinner there, but I wasn't impressed with the service and the food good. We rode for at least 5 hours every day and we were there for 8 days. Check the weather report everyday before you head out. Gerri can give you a pretty accurate report and don't do the stupid thing that we did and head out without slickers tied on to your saddle. Riding in the cold rain for 3 hours in a T-shirt and jeans is miserable. STupid, stupid we were. It was nice to be in the cover corrals when it was raining that afternoon to un-tack. We will do the cover corrals again.

My wife and I went to Broken Arrow this past june and absoutly loved it! Gerri and Larry are super nice people and have a great campground. Very quiet and the trails were quite good. We rode 5 -6 hours a day for the week. You will like it a lot.

Very clean, well kept campground. Super nice hosts. Wonderful trails. We stayed there 2 weeks and at French Creek in the park for 2 on our way to Battle Park in the Big Horns. Even though Broken Arrow cost more than French Creek I preferred it. Make Custer SD a trail riding destination or a stop over.

We are going to be there June 18-July 1. This is our first trip there. We are from Missouri. There are 5 ladies that make a long trip each year. Have you rode there before?
