So I put a deposit on the following truck. Is this a good year/engine? I drove it and it runs like a kitten. My mechanic's going to check it tomorrow for any issues it may have.2000 Chevy 2500HD 6.0, V8, 16 Valve, 3.73 gear ratio, extended cab, tow ready for bumper pull, great condition, 91K miles.

GM HD body style changed between 2000 and 2001. 2001 remained the same until the 2007.5 GMT900 body arrived. You'll be good to tow up to 9200# with this truck.... Have you mechanic give the brakes a good going over.... More important to be able to stop safely than it is to GO!

I have a 2000 Chevy K2500...I have just replaced the oil pan...was leaking right through the metal...had to replace the front brakes...and the wheel bearings, because that's where the ABS sensors are...had to replace a fuel tank strap that had RUSTED OFF the frame...so I'd say you want to look closely at the undercarriage...but Vermont winters are tough on vehicles...

Oh yeah. The dealer wants $11,200 for it. Seems high to me, but I really don't know. This thing has all the bells and whistles. New tires, bed cover, etc.

Oh...one more issue...if it has marker lights, then have your mechanic check to see of there is or has been a plow mount on the truck...if there is or has been one...then make sure you check the transmission...

No signs of plow attachment. We found brand new cables in the glove box that look like they're for trailering, so it hasn't even towed yet, at least nothing that needs brakes. My mechanic looked at it today and says it's got good power and is in good shape. I guess there were some tranny issues with this engine, but he didn't feel or hear anything that concerned him while we were driving it. No signs of rust, so we're good there. I've got the guy down to $11,000. Not sure how much better I can do. Unfortunately I'm in the northeast where everything is overpriced. Definitely no good trucks for $7,000 around here. I'm going to go in tomorrow and make my best offer and either buy or walk. Game face on!

Me thinks you would be mucho money ahead to just get your truck from a more southerly location. As Hogtown said, it is WAYYYY over priced. Even for California.

I checked Kelly Blue Book. Retail value has it at $11,900, so if anything, I've already got them below book value. This different values in different parts of the country thing drives me nuts! Around here, this really is a deal.

I could have bought my same truck in Corpus Christi Texas for about 16-18k. I paid just over 20 for it here in Ohio. Only you (and others that live up there) really know how good (or bad) of a deal it is..
In Ohio, the early Duramax's with high miles are still in the low teens. This price seems high for a 6.0 gas, but not by much. Maybe 1000-1500 bucks. If you can buy it at 11k out the door (tax, title, etc.), IMHO, you've done well.

The KBB is just a BALLPARK GUIDELINE! I have been in the buisness since 1983 and have found VERY few items listed correctly in the kbb. (just saying) I wish I had the nerve to ask kbb for my cars. Mine are listed most of the time under kbb trade in value. The only ones I have found close on that book is anything diesel..
