The previous owner of my trailer installed a trickle charger for the 2 batteries. I did a Google search of the convertor that i have in my trailer and a few posts lead me to believe that this particular convertor can be very hard on batteries. I charges them much too quickly. Is there a way to keep the convertor from charging the batteries?

If your LQ has a battery "Master" switch, turn it off. You can cut the wire and install a switch as previously stated. You can purchse a switch that affixes to the battery terminal. It has a rotary dial and you select on or off. This is used in many street cars that are stored for lengthy periods of time. They are available in most auto parts stores.

Thanks for the replies. I was already planning on installing that switch so that I could cut all power to the trailer when we returned home from a show, it seems like the kids always manage to leave something on and drain the battery.
Many times when we are at a show we switch from generator power to battery power...and so on. We might run the generator for a few hours to run the ac and then turn it off for a while and then turn it on again later. I was hoping there was a better way to do this than a manual switch. Would the overcharging not be a concern if we only used shore power for a few hours at a time? Is it possible that the people having problems were constantly plugged into shore power?

You shouldn't have an overcharging problem, when using the shore cord or generator for a few hours a day. The batteries are commonly ruined by long term exposure to overcharging. Some owners keep their LQs powered all winter, and find the batteries are baked in the Spring.

An additional question about how all of this goes togeather so I have a better understanding.
From my batteries there is a single wire that goes into the wall of the LQ. Does this go to the convertor and from there the 12 volt power is distributed from the fuse box to the 12 volt fixtures? I would guess that when the trailer is plugged into the shore power the convertor then has some type of internal switch that doesn't use battery power?
I would have to assume that wire is an input and output for the battery? Does the pickup charge the battery when hooked up? If so how does this happen....a wire from the pickup to the convertor?
Thanks for all of the help....just want to understand how it all goes togeather.
