Our trailer has a hydrolic jack- just flip a little switch and it works great! BUT... there is no back up if it breaks. I'm paranoid now after my friend's experince when their elec. jack broke when we were in the woods and we spent like 2 hrs. hand cranking the trailer down. But at least they did have a back up jack. my husband said we can hook up a little battery powered drill to (something??) and crank it up and down but I'm not sure what he's talking about. think we'd need an extra piece in there to attach to.

Your husband and you are both right! LOL The trailer I wrecked had this model of hydraulic jack. The top cover piece of the jack comes off. I think you have to undo a couple of screws, dont really remember, but it comes off and there is a piece under there that you insert an allen headed drill bit into and use an electric drill to run the jack. My husband said he didnt think a battery drill would run it long enough or something so we carried a regular drill (with correct size allen bit in the box) and a long extension cord. I have a generator in the truck, or we could use existing electrical plug at a campsite. When I replaced the trailer I made sure I got the newer model hydraulic jack that has the handle and side to side 2 speed manual jack as part of it as that would be easier than carrying around a drill, etc. You can go to the website for the brand of jack you have and look at the instructions for operating it manually.
