I was looking at purchasing a new pickup and have found a couple at local dealers that I liked. The 08 power stroke has 65,000 miles for 34 and the mega cab has 57,000 for 32.

I was wondering what people's opinions were and what expierences you've had with both.

I had nothing but problems with my 08 powerchoke. The day I traded it, it cleaned the exhaust filter 7 times in 400 miles! Ford said nothing was wrong with the truck. I traded for a Dodge that now has 2500 miles on it and have not noticed it cleaning the exhaust filter once! I paid 68K for the Ford and the best I could get on trade ( which was still in showroom condition) was 40K. The same dealer that sold me the ford truck only offered me 35K! So that kind of told me what they thought of their product.

No brainer.....the Dodge is the more reliable of the two, unless, it has been ragged out.

I have an 06 Ford and love it, but the 08 has a different engine and like mine, either you get a good one or bad one. Ford has a report that can be retained at any Ford dealership called the Oasis Report. You need the vin, but its worth calling them up and finding out what work has been done to the truck. The Ford has a higher GVWR, more torque, and a much better transmission than the Dodge. I like the interior much better on the Fords. It's quieter inside and out, but Fords are a little more expensive to maintain and really require "motorcraft only" upkeep.

HOWEVER  

The 06 Dodge probably has the 5.9l cummins (I am assuming its diesel) and that is the good diesel (no EPA crap-it's before the DPF came into effect aka exhaust cleaning). If it is an early 6.7 cummins, beware. The transmissions that are mated to the 5.9l in these trucks are known to go bad. You may end up running into issues with the short bed on the mega cab if you pull a gooseneck/fifth wheel. Ball joints on these go quick as well. My uncle has an 07 dodge diesel and just replaced the ball joints at 50k miles. On the bright side, they're nice trucks, have nice interiors, have plenty of power, and are much cheaper to maintain.

This is one of those "pick your poison" situations, IMO. It was for me when I chose my truck. I have been very lucky with it (dreaded 6.0 powerstroke). No matter if its Ford, Chevy, or Dodge, they all have their own issues. It really comes down to which one you like more than the next and whats in the budget!

Here's my opinion.......  I would buy the Dodge NOT running before I would even look at the Ford.

The 06 Dodge is going to have the 5.9L diesel, but will only have the 4 speed automatic (unless it has the hand grinder)  Your fuel mileage is going to be much better in the Dodge and less trips to the service department.

Well, I guess I'm the lone Ford guy.

I have a 2008 F350 Supercab Dually and I love it. There is rarely a week goes by that I'm not pulling some kind of trailer somewhere and this truck just loves to work. The harder I use it the better it runs. Bought it new and have just under 41,000 miles on it. It has the 4.10 rear end and I consistently get 13.5-14mpg during everyday driving. That doesn't sound like much but it's better than my old Dodge dually with a V10 engine. Used to only get 10mpg with it.

If you are looking to get the Ford have them run the Oasis report and find out if they have replaced the radiator yet. The 2008's had a problem with the a batch of radiators that leaked. Most should have had them replaced by now.

Mine only regens about every other tank of diesel. Usually lasts about 10-15 minutes and then it's done. Doesn't affect the power at all while regening.

Last fall I hit a 250 lb buck head on and the truck never stopped running, I just turned around and drove it back home. It's one tough truck!

I never worry about my wife going away to a show by herself when she's towing with the Ford. Never once has it had a problem.

Just my 2 cents.

I've got an 08 Ford F350 and also love it. It's a towing MONSTER. We just got back from two weeks in the smoky mountains, towing heavy. It felt like nothing was behind me, even with a regeneration of the diesel particulate filter (dpf) in progress! If the dash board display didn't tell me, I wouldn't recognize if a regen was in progress or not. Any problems this truck has had, Ford has taken care of on their dime. I'm completely satisfied. My friend has a new Dodge and is also very happy. You might want to visit dieselstop.com . There are a lot of diesel techs that post there frequently and would have an opinion, I'm sure.All the new diesels are required to and have the new emissions standards met, which means DPF's (diesel particulate filter) and urea filters and the like.Good luck on your purchase!

I have an 02 F350 dually with the old 7.3 liter diesel and I love it!! Too bad emission regulations made all of the big truck manufacturers mess up the good ole trucks.

Dodge is the way to go. I have an 04 Ram 3500 that is used mainly to pull a 3h GN trailer with a GVWR of 17,000 lbs. In 70,000 miles, I have out pulled just about anybody with a similar rig and another brand of truck. We just came back from a two week trip to Colorado. Averaged 12.5 mpg for the 1800 mile trip. It is a beast with a comfortable ride and power to spare.

Forgot to mention, it is a 5.9 Cummins and added an exhaust brake for mountain driving. We just came back to Missouri from two weeks in Colorado. Averaged 12.5 mpg.

I have an 05 Duramax. I like it only because I don't owe on it. I'll never buy another one. I have had nothing but problems with it. I can't depend on it. I am going to buy a Dodge next time around.

The hardest thing to give up, (when I traded the 08 Ford 450 "lemon"  for the 2010 Dodge 3500), was not the check for the difference, it was the King Ranch interior. But, after being out in the sun on a hot AR mid summer afternoon and getting into the new Dodge with the air conditioned seats,  I don't even miss that pretty King Ranch interior. Not at all!
