A friend of ours ran a horse at Churchill yesterday. We spent a wonderful day at the track. I hadn't been to Churchill in many years and had forgotten what a beautiful facility it is.
A view of the twin spires from the paddock area.
This is the paddock area where the horses are brought to be saddled up. There was a local artist working on his latest masterpiece.
Archie Trucker (horse number 5) getting tacked up.
The paddock parade headed for the track.
And finally, Archie Trucker crossing the finish line. He actually finished third. The winning horse was way out front and didn't make it in the shot.
Going to the races is fun any time, but there's a little something extra when you actually know one of the horses.
"Rose" and her fella went with us. Maybe she will post some of her pics later.

It was a lovely day at the Races. Churchill Downs is a really neat place to visit and as Dwight said, it was all the more interesting/fun since we are acqainted with the owner/trainer of Archie Trucker, who is a gorgeous grey TB. And Archie did very well in his race. All in all a super outing; one hopefully to be reprised in the not too distant future.
And I haven't gotten around to downloading my pix yet; cleaning stalls this am, then smacked the barn with the loader on the tractor, then forgot my files........

Looks like you had a good time...It is a beautiful place to visit...I have taken the tour of Churchill and went thru the Derby Museum and ate lunch there the next day...If you ever get over to Lexington, I highly recommend the Horse Park, take a tour of a thoroughbred farm and Keeneland...When I went (I was down there for the National Arabian Show in Louisville), my friends and I went to those places and went back the next morning and ate breakfast in the kitchen at Keeneland with the trainers, exercise riders and some jockeys...Was a very good meal...Wanna go back to Lexington and the Horse Park cuz the Arabian Horse Gallery is set to open soon...
