Hey there!

I was hoping that someone here might be able to help me out!  I bought a Kiefer trailer back in the fall and the place I bought it from have misplaced the keys (door, deadbolt, and drop-down windows) for it, therefore I have none.  I am wondering if there's anyway to get a set of replacement keys...would be much easier (and cheaper) than changing all the locks out.

Thanks in advance!

Call Kiefer with your vin number and I bet they can send you replacement keys. I did that with a Cherokee I bought one time. Well I actually made the dealer selling the trailer contact Cherokee. It was not a Cherokee dealer but anyway, he called and they sent the keys right away.I had good dealings with the folks at Kiefer on some warranty work I had to have done on my brand new Kiefer. Give em a call, I just bet they will help you.

I emailed Kiefer, and this is the response I got:

"We no long carry the keys you are referring to but if you call 800-431-XXXX they will be able to help you get the keys you need.   Sorry for the run around with this but the trailer is older than the keys we keep in inventory."

I called the number she gave me and the lady there said that the codes are not for their locks.  Whether she looked them up or not is another thing - she said she didn't recognize the numbers.  Maybe I should try again?

I bought the trailer from a used car dealership, so I don't know that they would have any sort of contacts at Kiefer.

Well dang.  I am sorry, I felt sure Kiefer would be able to help you.  You might come out better to just have a locksmith re-key the locks.

I second the Locksmith.   Just have him pick the lock and make you a set of keys.

How old is the trailer? I too have had really good dealings with Kiefer, both on my 2000 and now my 09. There are numbers on the locks that will correspond with the keys. Give Bonnie in customer service a call if RTSmith can't help you.

We're on it. Like many manufacturers the locksets are already in the doors when Kiefer gets them. Kiefer uses Bauer locks now & keeps all of the keys for them. But this older one has FIC locks. She's gotten me the code it we're sorting it out now. Should be handled shortly.

Man,is this guy great,or what?!!! 51

Sure wish I'd had his help when the dealer "lost" a set of keys to a brand new LQ Platinum that we bought.

I do have to thank Parkland in MO for getting us a key to the battery box that had, mysteriously, been replaced or rekeyed after it left Platinum's production in OK.(By the way,I was able to get my keys directly from Platinum, finally, all except the battery box.)

RT,you're the man of the day.48

you'll most likely start by contacting Keifer directly.Did you buy that from an individual? (sounds as if you did.) When I had the correct keys in my possession,I'd do her a small favor and mail the keys back to her with a nice note that basically, lets her know that they were NOT the right keys, but thanks anyway for trying to make you feel like an idiot because you couldn't get those "right" keys to lock your trailer door.48

if you bought it from a dealer, and they lost the keys, then why would YOU need to pay for new locks, with working keys..... I bought a used trailer, and one compartment lock would not lock. They ordered me a new one, and mailed it to me when it came in. I installed myself, just because it was easier than taking to back over to them.

If you bought from an individual, then yes, I could see it being your responsibility to change the locks out if needed.

When I bought my Sidekick trailer it had no keys with it even though it came from the original owners.  I tried working through the company but they had no record of what keys had been used.

When I first bought the trailer, I replaced the lock and key on the main door at a camper place so I could at least lock the camper.

I had a friend give me a suggestion that I thought was a scarey thought.  He said a lot of those camper door keys are universal so he gave me some keys from his brothers camper that had been flooded to try and a few of his own off his horsetrailer.  I manage to find keys for the water, electric, drop windows and walk thru side door.  I still needed the walk thru door from the bathroom to the horse compartment.  When I helped my parents move, I found a set of keys off of a camper they use to own so I tried them and managed to find the walk thru door key. Found all keys from old sets, scarey......

We have been giving the run around with our 4Star dealer about a replacement key.  My husband lost or misplaced his LQ key after a ride.  I still have my orginal key with a number on it.  The dealer needed a letter off the door.  They then sent us a key that had already been cut out with the same letter.  It did not work.  You would think the number on the key or the serial number on the trailer would help but it did not.  So I made another call and he now tells me he will get a hold of the 4-Star  manufacturer and get us a blank.  So I am still waiting. I am thinking a locksmith might be the way to go.

why don't you just take charge of it,and contact 4-Star yourself? I don't know how long you've been waiting on the dealer to do it but,if it's been long enough, obviously,it's not a priority for him.(Not saying that it shouldn't be,just that it looks as if it's NOT.)

We bought an older 4 Star and I contacted them for several re[placement parts, one of which was a key.The man in the parts department is most helpful.Call them.If the dealer ever does follow through you can have fun by telling him "Whoops,I took care of it,thought you were just too busy or something."

Find out what brand trailer door you have. I needed an extra set of keys and couldn't get them locally. I found out if you take the inside of the lock off there is a factory number for that particular lock. You can then order the key online. Mine cost $7.00 each key. The RV store was going to have to order it anyway. Mine is a FASTEC Manufacturing Company (FIC) door. I just googled it. You can get the tumblers and change them all out to the same key for slightly more than each individual key.

I never thought of going directly to the Mfg.  I just thought the 4Star dealer would help me.  But I did contact  the mfg. and the guy said he did have our key number and will ship them out at $10 each.  Thanks!

We went to several RV places for a key. In fact, I talked to the key rep. who sevices our hardware store.  He can't get the key.  I wouldn't think of taking anything apart on the door.  I just know it would not go back right!

I did go straight to the 4Star manufacturer and gave them my key number and they sent two that worked.  There was a replacement cost of course, but at least we now have two keys in case husband looses his again.  In the meantime, the dealer sent two blanks ready to cut if we need them.  Tlh, maybe you could go straight to the Keifer mfg. and get some help.
