What are the pros and cons of the extruded sides on the horse trailer.. I like the look but what is the reason for this feature?? Is it worth the added expense??

An extrusion is more durable than a painted surface. It is a thicker and more rigid material, so it is less prone to denting. Because it is not painted, scratches don't show as well, and there is less maintenance. Any scratches or gouges usually can be burnished out, where as damaged paint has to be resprayed. Extrusions are commonly found on the lower half of trailers, where pawing and abrasions would visually and mechanically damage a painted and thinner surface.

Given a choice, I would always opt for their inclusion.

I second what Gard said. I have a pawer and she has not been able to damage the extruded sides, although God knows she has tried.
