I was wondering if any one had suggestions on how to stop my horses tail from bristling at the top? Her mane and tail are really pretty except for this. I have used skin so soft oil, mane &tail conditioner. Any ideas???

Check out the grooming mane and tail post on this forum. Cowpony gave us her recipe for mane and tail care along with before and after pictures of her horse.

The horse is judged on manners, collection, quality, softness and the gait performed. Depending on the breed, horses show be relaxed and willing. The horse is ridden in western tack and rider is also in western attire.English pleasure- another rail class which horses are ridden in english ( hunt or saddleseat) tack ( saddles and bridles) and the rider in appropriate attire. The gaits asked for are walk, trot, strong trot, canter and sometimes hand gallop( depending on breed) Again horses are judged on manners, collection, impusion, quality, and suitablity. Equtation classes are judging the rider in classes split between western and english. Judges are looking for riders who have a solid seat, legs under them, not leaning back or forwards, good hands...in this class its pretty much about the rider.you can google 4-h web sites for more infomation as well.

I soap and condition once a week. Any nice mild human hair soap works (peralized means conditioning soaps) then followed by a deep conditioner. I use a product called cholesterol, sounds healthy huh? Follow directions (usually 5 minutes before rinsing out) and keep the hair properly dressed and braided in a tail sack between washings. Another thing to think about is your worming schedule. Pin worms can make horses rub the top of the tail out and it will look all wirey. My bets horse friend has started giving 3/4 dose of wormer orally and then 1/4 in the pooper shooter because she had a hard to worm mare. Most wormers are used up before they hit the colon therefore you can have a wormed horse that is highly infested in the hind gut region. FYI.

You might also look at supplements to aid the finish of the coat overall. Select makes several coat supplements that are fabulous and made my horses finally look like they lived in a big barn and helped give me a winning edge years ago.
