Hey all, I'm looking at buying a truck, and I thought I would ping for opinions. Looking at a Dodge 2006 Ram 2500 4x4 6 foot bed with the 5.7 hemiQuestions are:1) can I haul a gooseneck on a 6 foot "short bed"? or do I need the 8ft bed?2) My current trailer is a 2 horse bummer pull. Weight ~2500lbs. May someday upgrade to an ~5k weight trailer. Should this truck be ok for the long term?3) experiences with dodge hemi's for hauling?4) 4x4 vs rear wheel drive for hauling5) This is a *lot* of money to me and I've been saving for *years* to get a truck. I will *not* be able to replace this thing in 3 years if things go kaput. So I'm really interested in reliability and long life span.I know the cummins engine is fantastic, and I would really like one, but up to this point I've not been able to find one with relatively low miles within my price range. So... I'm looking at the HemiThanks so much!~Ashley

My wife has the 2007 1500 5.7 Hemi Ram, CC, 2x4, SB, superchips tuner and open air filter, and have have pushed the limits pretty good with a bumper pull feed trailer I have. A 4K trailer + 5 tons of feed, so I was well into 14K pounds behind it( yes I know way to much weight I don't need to hear it ) . While it did not love it, the ram still got 10MPG and ran along fine at 65 or 70 on the freeway and 60+ up a big 12 mile grade from the hayfield to the freeway . So I would bet that the 2500 with the Hemi would be fine.
You can buy alot of unleaded with the difference in engine price.

Like Hog said...if you get a GN with a shortbed make sure it's nose is narrowed or you may modify the back of your cab some day... To pull a two horse bumper pull...ALMOST any truck will do...
