It has rained so much in the last couple of weeks, that, we are leaving the Sportchassiss at home and pulling the LQ trailer with the new 08 Ford 450 4x4. But, when the trailer is plugged into the factory truck plug, the truck's back up lights are on constantly. Everything works fines including the brakes.

The trailer is a 07 Bloomer that has never had any plug wiring changes done to it. It gets pulled routinely with the Sportchassis but has also been pulled with the 02 GMC dually without this problem.

That one is beyond me. Without a meter and a wiring diagram, I'd be lost.

I ended up taking my 2002 F350 and rig to a local trailer wiring whiz to get things fixed up properly. Turns out, the truck itself had shorts that had to be corrected before the trailer would light up properly. This was off the factory wiring harness, so beware. May need to take it back to the dealer to fix it right.

I had this happen to my 06 F-350, I took plug apart and moved one of the wires but for the life of me I can't remember which color I moved. Just like you said everything else worked fine just back up lites on when plugged in. I think I looked at wiring diagram on web and put wires on like that, they were on different than diagram I found. Everything worked OK when I used my 97 f-250 before I got 06 F-350

Good luck just takes a little messing it will work.

Bloomer uses the center pin as the power line to the LQ batteries because of the electric/hydraulic brakes. The regular "charge line" pin is used to power the E/H circuit. Ford uses the center pin as reverse lights. So you are backfeeding into the Ford circuit from the LQ batteries. Bloomer's literature shows they have a special wiring diagram. It is possible to alter this setup in the Bloomer junction box under the neck. Bloomer doesn't advise this, but it is often done at the LQ plants to get back to the traditional 7 pin wiring functions.

Thanks RT...since I bought the trailer from you, maybe you could advise me the best as to how I should  handle getting this problem resolved? Change the truck or change the trailer? Pull a fuse?

My personal preference is to change the trailer. I like the standard 7 pin wiring pattern that uses the center pin for reverse lights. That way every trailer works on every truck....Use the "batt charge" pin for charging the LQ batts & running the E/H actuator. Also- this way the batts give me some overload protection in case of extended braking, rather than blowing the fuse on the truck & losing all braking. I've done several with no adverse affects, and it doesn't require a dedicated truck pin. The pattern Bloomer recomends(sp?) comes from Dexter and is used by Kiefer Built and others on their air-ride units. It is easy to change your Bloomer in the wiring box up by the coupler. Roger can talk you through it (931-685-4040) or your RV shop should be able to handle it in a jiffy.

BCR... Sounds like you're considering changing the trailer.  Don't you use two other vehicles to pull this same trailer?

Hoss- Exactly. I think she's trying to get the Bloomer to a standard 7 pin that will work everywhere, rather than the special pattern it is now. Originally, Bloomer's owner's manual suggests a plug wiring that is fairly unique. But in reality, it is possible to make it the same as everyone elses and that way there's no need for a special plug in each truck just for the Bloomer.

Yes HP, I do pull this trailer with the other 2 trucks. But, the problem is only with the 08 Ford. Since I want to be able to pull it with the Ford and not burn up any wiring, I need to get the issue resolved sooner than later. The FORD has enough issues on it's own without messing with it's wiring. As far as trading LQ trailer's. I am happy enough with this one to wait for exactly what I want. The way I see it, I might find a really good deal on exactly what I want with the big trailer market like it is........
