Is there any benefit of going with a 7ft wide trailer? If the axles are the same, 102 inches on both a 7ft or an 8ft wide trailer, they would both be the same to drive so I wonder why peopel don't all go for the 8ft wide trailer?

Some people are more comfortable with the 7' wide because it is easier to see around. It is also less expensive than the 8' wide.

With a LQ we have had both 7'wide,and 8'wide,and I definately like having the extra width in the LQ.I don't know if it matters much otherwise except to your horses,if you are hauling larger breeds. But on the LQ,yes,it is a benefit to some.

You are correct that trailers are 102"wide. Because of the ability to see around the trailer, some people prefer the 7'wide, I myself wouldn't have anything less than 8'wide. I love the extra room in the LQ, plus if you get a bigger horse, it will fit. Now if you get an 8 1/2'wide with a slide...... there is enough room to play "Twister" in there. LOL

The 8 wide is more to see around, but I prefer it for the added space in the LQ, and the added space in the horse compartment, as I have the manger storage as well.  Love it all!

If you decide on the 8 foot wide, might also want to go to a taller roof like 7'3" or 7'6" if you are going to be adding an LQ.

I have an 3H eight-foot short-wall living quarters that is only seven-foot wide.  While it would be nice to have side storage under the mangers, etc., I prefer not having the mangers for my horses.  I don't have really large horses so they fit fine in the slant.  My living quarters has a more open layout than some so I don't feel cramped.  The real advantage is that the trailer weighs about 1500, maybe 2000 pounds less than the eight-foot wide model which suits my V10 F-250 much better.  Being able to see around the trailer is an added bonus.  My cousin who has the same brand of trailer but eight-foot wide model commented on how well the trailer pulled and how much better he could see around it than his.  He pulls his trailer with a dually which I would want if I had that extra weight, but I do prefer my F-250 overall.  It all depends on your needs but there are advantages to a smaller trailer.

7'W pulls much lighter. More fuel economy? But smaller LQ. Trade off as with everything else horses.

I sell trailers for a living, and my personal trailer is a 7' wide with a slideout and mangers.  My wife and I both have QH and TW horses; and they fit very comfortably into this trailer.  My wife enjoys pulling the 7' wide on long trips; but yet she has the room of an 8' wide when she opens the slide.  I think the 7' wide w/ slideout is a good compromise between 7' and 8' wide.  The mangers in 7' wides are usually a little narrower than in an 8' wide.  The 7' wide in a strong headwind pulls easier than an 8' wide.  However, we still sell more 8' wide LQ's at our dealerships than 7's.
