Went camping this weekend, my ac worked for about 4 hours then blew the breaker. After flipping the breaker back on, I turned it on again. It works fine on fan only, but when the compressor tries to kick on it flips the breaker. Would appreaciate anyone's ideas on what is going on.

Thanks for the offer, but I am at the other end of the state. I was just hoping that if it was possible that it could be just a weak circuit breaker or maybe the relay. Something I might be able to check and do myself. I just had to replace my gas/electric refrigerator so was trying to keep my cost down and praying I don't have to replace the AC

Don't know if this will help or not, but I was at a horse show recently where the high temps were always above 110 and one day it hit 124. Everyone was running A/C almost constantly. Not everyone had RV hookups so many were running A/C off generators. I know of two instances where the generator breaker would flip because of too much running at once - A/C compressor, microwave, hairdryer, etc. Do you have other things drawing power at the same time as the A/C unit that might be overloading the circuit?

The only other thing that was running on ac was the refrigerator. I switched it to the gas setting and the ac still blew the breaker. Do the breakers ever get weak - they have been in the trailer for 13 years.

Hi I would check that there is the correct voltage at your air conditioner, long cables or if there are lots of people using power at the same time can cause low voltage which will cause the a/c to draw more amps which is maybe whats triping your breaker, low voltage will burn out the compressor motor eventuly, maybe worth getting a electrcian to check things out hope this helps.....

I also had a simillar problem.. I found that even though I was plugged in to the electric, that the trailer was so far from the plug I had to use an extension cord... and someone on here told me that due to the volts going down thru the long cord that could be my problem..
AND WHAT TO YOU KNOW.. THEY WERE RIGHT. I moved the trailer closer to the house and hooked directly up to the house.. and now I can run everything at once..

I was only 10 feet from where I was plugged in and it had been running fine for about 4 hours and I was using the heavy duty cord that was installed by the RV place.
