Has anyone ever stayed at this campground, the lodge next door or ridden the trails around The Black River? We're thinking of visiting in the Fall and just wanted to see if anyone had any feedback. We usually find places to stay with cabins or a lodge since we don't have LQ in our trailer, so we're kind of limited on where we stay unless we tent camp..

I'm also open to other suggestions of places to ride (with lodging & stalls or pens) around Illinois, Indiana & Missouri. We're about 2 hours North of the Shawnee, so we frequently ride there (Little Lusk, Bay Creek Ranch, Bear Branch & 34 Ranch), but we're looking to ride different places this fall.

Is place your talking about called www.brushtycreeklodge.com   outside Black,MO.We took drive down there about 90 miles from us and really likde place. We have friends who come down from central Il and been riding there few years. We're hoping to go over for few days also.

We live close to www.bigcreektrailrides.com and like place really well too.We wanta try Golden Hills but stalls and pens  are horrible(vet call)with old broken boards etc.The pool (hahaha)is wading 2 feet maybe (false advertising). We been going to 4J Big Piney and love place, people n food great trails.

I'll have to check out the place you suggested tho since we're looking into MO trails.  Thx for the info!

We went to Golden Hills a few years ago. They have sold off a lot of land to build houses on and do not have all the trails they advertise. You can ride everything in one day.

We stayed there a couple of years ago. If you are wanting to stay at the lodge it is at least a half a mile away from the campground maybe further. The stalls aren't very good but okay if you're close to keep an eye on the horses. Our campsite was near the river and shady which was nice. Most of the campers are not horse people but were no trouble. The people that run the place were nice. We rode twice and weren't impressed with the trails but they may have added some by now. I wouldn't drive as far as you live to go there.

Coldwater Ranch just N of Eminence has very nice cabins, campsites, and stalls and all the riding you could want. Current River and Jacks Fork are just down the road, close to Eminence for supplies and restuarants.

Our home base is Cuivre River State Park Equestrian Campground.  There are electric and basic campsites, with tie-outs for horses (no stalls).

There are 11 miles of trails, varying degrees of difficulty...everthing from road-riding on the bluff to moderate/rocky trails.

The camp hosts are great...they are good customer service folks and care about the campers...we behave ourselves (for the most part) and have no trouble.

We stayed at Golden Hills and used the swimming pool. It is deeper than two feet. It is a regular pool with a depth of six to eight feet, but it is small. More like the inground pools people put in their back yards. I did not care much for the trails and it is very expensive to stay there.
