I have a LQ trailer and noticed this weekend a sulphur smell coming from the faucet when I use the water. What is causing this? Was pretty strong smelling. Haven't noticed it before. I'm thinking the water tank needs to be flushed and have some bleach added, then flushed again.
Another question I have. Wear do you dump your sewer holding tank? I've had people tell me to go out on the back 40 or dig a hole and let 'er rip or go to a dump station. I'm thinking of stopping by a nearby campground to see if I could use their dump station. And how much does a holding tank(sewer one) generally hold? When do you know it is full?
Just some questions that have come up and wondered about.

I don't know about the smell coming from your faucet. But it won't hurt to flush your tank to see if it gets rid of it.
I dump my sewer at a Love's Truck Stop that I go by often. I've seen dump stations at other truck stops and at some state parks that have overnight camping. I know people that dump in the pasture, but they have alot more land than I do.
When it is full? If you don't have a monitor, you can open the potty trap door and look down into the tank. Or if it starts smelling bad, it's most likely fuller than you'd like it to be. :-) Sometimes my monitor says it full even though I just dumped. If that happens, I get a hose and put it in the tank to flush out around the sensors. I think most holding tanks are in the 15 to 20 gallon range.

Hey MIFarmBabe... drive by my place... there's an old cement tank out back from the people before the last owner. They had an RV so they put a dump tank in the back yard! What a pain in the neck for me though. I don't dare include it in the pasture... no telling when it could decide to collapse. : (

Gabz,
Sure I'll drive downstate to dump my crapper in your yard. LOL! The infamous image of Randy Quaid dumping the "crapper" in the city sewer in the movie "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" always comes to my mind when I think of emptying the waste tank.
I asked my husband if I could just dump it in the manure spreader. He didn't like the idea of his cows eating human feces.

Dawnya,
We are building a house and built an RV dump into our septic system so it dumps into our septic tank. We are concerned about the holding tank chemicals having a negative effect on the septic system bacteria (the good kind). What chemicals do you use in your holding tank?

I use whatever is on sale at Wal-Mart. I don't use very much chemical (for pee-pee, #1) and add a little if needed for #2 (if any) I *thought* the chemicals speed up decomposition, wouldn't it help the septic?? The bottle says 'safe for septic systems' on it. Again, I don't use that much anyway so I haven't put any thought into it.

When I first got my water hooked up I noticed a sulphur smell and thought it was something in my water heater. But when I ran all the water out and used a different water source, that solved the problem. I noticed it way more in the hot water than the cold. One was well water and one city water.

the hot water smell is most likely from the sulphur rod in the hot water heater. if these hot water heaters are like residential there is a sulphur rod that can be pulled out and that will take care of the smell.
