Palo Duro and Caprock are definite must see, must rides! The camps are primitive, but very nice. If you have a very large rig... be careful going down to Palo Duro.. Steep switchbacks getting down there. We loved the riding! I will try to attach some pics for you.

Both places are nice. Camp sites at Caprock are a lot better than Palo Duro Canyon. Unless they have opened up more trails at the back of the horse camp at Palo Duro, there is not a lot of riding there, but it is a must ride. Caprock has more trails. There is also a place close to Caprock, Pole Canyon Ranch, that has hookups. I haven't been there but have friends that have and they said it was a good place to ride. I want to try it some day soon.

I have not ridden there but a freind lives near there and rides them often. He has warned that the only real problem is they get weather extremes both ways ( hot and cold ) and at times can change rather quick, BUT HE SAYS IT IS WORTH IT!! Good riding

Not kidding about the weather extremes....It snowed in Amarillo today!!! May check with Palo Duro about them closing sometimes during the winter. I was there in November about 4 or 5 years ago, with GREAT weather, and they told me they close at least the equistrian sometime after November I think. I guess partly because of the road going in, pretty steep. I'd hate to do it in snow and ice.

I have ridden both places. Road to Palo Duro canyon is steep so just go slow. They do have water available but no electricity for equine campers. We were there two years ago at Thanksgiving and they locked gates around 9:00 pm due to security issues because park is close to Amarillo. So be sure and get there before 9:00.
We went from Caprock to Palo Duro and the road we took was a crooked steep highway. Don't remember if we went from Caprock Highway 207 or Highway 70/256 but was unusual for Texas highways. It was a beautiful drive but we didn't expect the hills.
