Congratulations!!  How many years have you had her?  Enjoy these yrs; they are the best.  Old enough to be settled and smart.  Young enough to still get up and go.

I got her as a just turning 5 year old unbroke, and training her was a cake walk! She really spoils me! I just jumped on her with a bosal and saddle and started doing ranch work with her, she took to it easily, without a fuss, and quick. I know when the time comes it's gonna be hard, and I will never find another one like her.....

My husband's Missouri Foxtrotter mare,Blaze, will be 20 yrs young this November, and, she still goes down the trail like she did when she was 2,walking a "hole in the ground." If we rode her on a regular basis, she'd be able to tackle all the trails like Josie does! We could never replace her. There's usually just ONE of those once in a lifetime horses like these are!

Happy Birthday Josie! I have a QH mare that is now 35 yrs old and have had her since she was 2 ( my first horse). She gets babied alot but she still loves to run with the other horses. We keep her up in the winter where she can go in and out of her stall with access to all the hay she wants. Neighbors stop and ask where she is when we put her up! We put her out this past week and have seen several of them stopping to pet her. She really went down hill this year even with senior feed and vet said 2 wks ago I have to realize she wont live forever. I just hope to find her in the pasture some morning and not have to put her down! Tearing up now, grrr. I have ridden a bay mare for 5 yrs and got me a new TWH 6 wks ago but I dont think I will ever have one like her again. We were truly 2 peas in a pod. Husband is very understanding and told vet ( I was crying) that was okay we have her spot picked out in the pasture. Hopefully that is still along way off. It sounds like you and Josie are like Won One and I! Congratulations to you both for that special friendship!

Happy Birthday Josie! 13 is a great age, not old, not young.
My Lucy turned 8 on April 12, just right!
I bought my mare at 6, and she was just broke. She spoils me too!
Sure makes riding fun when you've got such a good horse, Josie is gorgeous!

My favorite years are from about 10 - 25, as long as they're sound. They just get better and better. As far as her being the only one...I raised my QH gelding from the get-go(owned his dam) and though I miss him every day, my new horses are great too...just different. I guess it's like kids. Some are easier, but you love them all. The horse I ride now is cowy, and my old QH was TERRIFIED of cows! So, I'm having tons of fun and it's "different".
