Hi,  I'm thinking about going to Cedar Lake horse camp in Oklahoma (Quachita forest).

I would appreciate it if anyone has any informatioin about the camp ground, trail system, preferred time of the year.  I'm thinking late April or May.

Any information would be appreciated.

Dennis

We were there in Aug 07;  it was hot but what a wonderful wrangler camp and really good trails, lots of water crossings.  The friends of the camp had bandanas printed with the trail map, we got them from the ranger.  Really cute idea and useful too.

Sorry about the duplicate post;  I hit the button in error.

One of the best state park horse camps around. There are pens now at the sites too. I would recommend reserving a site prior to going.

The trails are VERY, VERY rocky. And not the small rock - large rocks, some to the size of bowling balls. The trails are well marked, but still would recommend GPS. Some hills and winding through the wilderness trails. Not many water crossings though compared to riding near the Current River in MO. The road going into the campground is a bit narrow, but it is paved.

Mountain View Animal clinic is very helpful should you need a vet in the middle of the night. Mountain View Animal Clinic-  (918) 647-8275 21915 Branson Rd, Poteau, OK 74953

We've been there in April and May. Prefer May because the weather is a tad warmer.

Was there in May & November last year and plan to go back first week in May this year.  Campground is really nice and trails are well marked.  It is a little rocky but most places in Oklahoma/Missouri/Arkansas are.  Over half the sites are now first come - first serve.  They still have a few you can reserve.  If you come mid-week you should not have much trouble in getting a site unless OETRA has a ride planned at that time.  Hope this helps. - maybe will see you there (May 5-8).

Here I am Rose.  As for the tables we got them from the Sundowner dealer in Mississippi.  And we love them.  I bought one first.  Liked it so well had to have another.  They are easy to install.  And handy.

Cedar lake is a great campground, ranger was very friendly and helpful.  Loved the maps on the scarfs.  and the riding was good.  We were there in July and it was bad HOT, so we cut our trip short.  So didn't ride all of it.  But liked what I rode.
