What make, model and size tire is on the trailer now? Are they 16", 17.5" . If I were replacing them and they were 16", I would go with Michelin XPS Rib 235-85/R16lr-E, rated at 3042# at 80 psi. This is a full steel cased tire, sidewalls included. if you need a little heavier tire you could go with a Goodyear G 614rts in a 235-85/R16lrG. This tire is rated at3750# at 110psi, but are your rims rated for 110 or 80 psi? All this stuff matters. "Good" and "value priced" are not to used in the same sentence when talking about tires for your horse trailer. The above two tires are as good as it gets, IMHO!!!!........And they are not by any means ....value priced.

Thanks for the reply. I actually sorta chuckled to myself when I wrote the good/value priced thing knowing full well that was not a possibility. Just thought I would try though. The tires that are on the trailer now are 235/80/R16 and the rims are rated for 80psi. We will definitely look into the tires that you have mentioned. Do you have a ballpark as far as price goes for these?

They are in the $200.00+ range. off the shelf, no mounting, balancing, etc. just for a tire. You can find the Michelin info at the tirerack.com The Goodyear info can be found on the net or call your local Goodyear commercial tire dealer...the truck tire place!!

Recently I purchased a set of new LT take offs for $100 each that listed for $172. Check your tire dealers that sell wheel/tire upgrades for new trucks. You will find the many brands that are installed on new equippment
Make sure that you are getting load range "e" LT tires and not the passenger series used on suv's.

I like the G range tires that will hold 110lbs of air and are 14 ply but they are expensive and none of them last over 5 yrs on that size trailer regardless of how much tread they have.

Thanks to all of you for the information about tires for our trailer. Much appreciated! We like the idea of the lrG tires - added security & etc. I looked at the rims and there is no specific information about what the rims are rated for. There is no 80 or 110 stamped on them anywhere - all it says is 'Heavy'. Do the rims have to be 110 for a lrG tire? How do you know what the rims are rated for if it is not stated on them anywhere? Don't mean to sound stupid but when it comes to this kind of stuff I admit I don't know too much about it. Any help with this is welcome!
