I am considering a 1996 Aluminum Featherlite 4 Horse Trailer.  Any advice, words of caution, etc?  I just got an email from a friend suggesting that a Featherlite may not be built as well as other trailers.  I had not heard this in the past.

We have a 2002 4 horse aluminum Featherlite that we L-O-V-E!! I think they call it a model 8541. My husband is a welder by trade and he says the trailer's welds are done very well! We haven't had a bit of trouble with her (knock on wood). Good luck!

We have owned two featherlite gooseneck trailers and have had absolutely no problems whatsoever.  The one we have now is a 1996 3 horse with living quarters.  Pulled it many miles and love it.  In MHO they are very well made.  If we ever trade trailers again, it would be another featherlite.

mnoll,

I did a lot of research on different manufacturers when I was looking for a trailer.  I finally bought a Featherlite a few weeks ago!   I love it!!!  They seem to have everything I was looking for - user friendly, built well, and of course, beautiful!  I would ask your friend where they heard about the construction.  Good luck shopping!

My only advice would be lift the rubber mats and check the floor. Make sure it has been properly taken care of. Look to make sure there is no corrosion eating away at the floor. I would say this to anyone purchasing an aluminum trailer of that age.

We've had our 1995 Featherlite 4H GN all aluminum trailer for about 4 years, 2nd owner. Never had one problem with it. Do check the floors and maybe have a welder take a look underneath.
