If the latches are releasing on their own, I would assume they are not fully engaged to begin with. When was the last time they were lubricated? Spraying a penetrating oil on the spring, pivoting mechanisms and latch will ensure a proper operation. Are the "sockets" in the walls free of debris? If they are contaminated with manure, this will prevent the latch from fully seating.

When you close the divider, can you see the latch seat into the wall receptacle? There should be a positive click. When you look at the end of the divider and pull the release handle, is the latch moving completely in and out? If it doesn't protrude much, the mechanism needs to be lubricated to free it up.

The Exiss slam latches are usually trouble free, long lasting, and easy to use. It is one of the features that persuaded me to purchase an Exiss. Our trailer is the same age as yours, and with minimal maintenance, has yet to experience any such difficulties.

The latch seemed short so we welded an extension to make sure it seated completely.  We have checked all the mechanisms and even made a groove for the latch to catch better.  My horse is 16.2 Tb., big but not drafty.  He rides smoothly, until the door pops open!  It happens going down hill turning corners, even at 5mph! Exiss gave us an L extension to try to keep it closed but this hasn't worked.  Our smaller horse rides in the middle and never had a problem.

So the tab is long enough to seat into the wall socket and be held by the spring loaded latch? The only way it can open is to pass by the latch. Since the latch is the only moving part, it has to be at fault. I believe they are replaceable.

Again, when the divider closes, is the pin part of the divider fully seating into the wall, so the latch is securely closing? If the latch were not completely moving towards the inward lock direction when the handle is released, it might not be completely securing the pin.

What is the possibility that your big horse is "sitting" on the back wall?  Have you ever taken a ride in the trailer with him?  It might be something to try.  He could very benignly rest his weight back against the wall, bowing it out just enough to release the latch.  When you stop the trailer and look inside, he is probably standing forward, ready to move.  Just an idea.

Even if he is sitting on the back wall shouldn't a trailer be built to allow this?  That is why we welded an extension on the latch that now just barely doesn't hit the wall of the latch.  It snaps shut when we close it and we have pushed and hung and swung trying to find the problem.

Kay may be on to a cause. Something had to change since your trailer was built, for the divider to be too short now. The divider itself is massive and is unlikely to have varied in dimension.

If you were to take a tape measure and measure the inside widths of your trailer at the back, center and front, you should be able to determine if statically, the trailer has straight walls. The measurements shouldn't vary by much more than 1/4".

If they are equal, than the only other cause I can think of, is perhaps a broken weld on a wall stud that is allowing the wall to flex under pressure. Normally this won't happen, as the Event Exiss is well constructed.

By pushing on the wall outward at the area of the latches, can you feel any movement? It should feel rock solid and have none. If it flexes, there will be a structural problem.

One other thought; how are the hinges on the divider? Are they secure and in place with no mechanical issues?

There has to be a reason why the divider is too short now. It doesn't sound like the latch is at fault.

We have a 2001 as well, and the latches have worked flawlessly.....have pulled through some very "torque-y" roads without this being an issue whatsoever.....went and looked at ours, and just cannot envision how this is happening......let us know what it winds up to be....this is very strange..
