Please share any inforamtion about riding and camping at Mammoth Cave State Park in TN. I am planning a fall trip and appreciate any feed back on the facilities and trails. Thanks.

Mammoth Cave is a great place to ride and camp. We usually stay at Double J. Even tho the stalls are little rough, they are right by the trailer area. And Double J is a lot less $$ than the new camp.

We stayed at Double J as well and drove to the other camps and were glad that we ended up staying at Double J. The campground was in excellent shape and well maintained. I would certainly recommend staying there. However, we were in Kentucky rather than TN.

Stayed at the "new camp" in Ky...didn't like it very much, you might, but having the horse's around 1/4 mi from me and no-one to guard the stables at nite, didn't make me rest very good. Trails were ok but not worth the 4 hour pull for me to get to them.

There are three camps at Mammoth Cave. Double J has the best trail access. You will have to ride in and out the same one mile stretch of old logging road but that takes you to a "hub" from which you can choose three different loop trails. Or you can stay on the logging road, known as Collie Ridge, out to the end and turn around. There is an old cemetery out Collie Ridge that has gravestones from the early 1800s. Kinda neat.
Along the loop trails you will see creeks, small caves and rock formations. If you're not going too fast and keep your eyes peeled, you can also see the remnants of old homesteads and some really old 'family plot' graves.
Spring is my favorite time to ride at MC. The trees and flowers are blooming and the wildlife is active. There are lots of deer and turkey. We even saw a bobcat once!
Another perk to camping at MC is that there are some fun places to visit in the nearby towns of Cave City and Glasgow. If the weather is bad or you just want to take a day away from riding, you can go to Guntown Mountain or check out KyDownUnder. And, of course, there is the tour of the caves.
There are also two places to eat within a short drive from camp. The closest is the Country Kitchen (name??). The other is the restaurant at the lake marina. Both have good food at a fair price.
