I'm looking at buying a 2005 Sundowner 777 Bumper Pull and i would like to know it's weight. On the Site they said that this can be pulled by SUV's for short trips.  What would you pull it with? I have a mid-sized SUV 4.7L engline V-8 with a 110inch wheelbase. I will be using a Weight Distribution Hitch and Sway bars. Is this good enough.  Also my friend has a F-150 4.6L Engine. My SUV is a dodge with a 4.7L, so then why does her's feel more powerful towing? Sorry for o many Questions, it'd be great if you guys could answer some of them. Thanks

Hard to say exactly, with or without the dressing room?  Without I would guess 2700#, with I would say a touch over 3000#.

What is the tow rating on your suv, Durango? What year?  What rear end ratio?  How many horses are you hauling?  Where do you live? How often/far will you be hauling?  I would say properly set up your suv should be adequate, depending on your situation.  Dont forget the brake controller.

Dont know why the F150 feels more powerful.  Maybe a different rear end?

it has the dressing room, my durango is a 2000, i'm not sure the rear end ratio. I'll be hauling no more than 2 hours with probly only one horse. It'll be mostley interstate driving. I have the brake controller

According to this site, the tow rating is between 4450# and 6050# depending on 4x4 and the rear end ratio.

If youre on the low end, that trailer with one horse would be at the limit, which is not a saftey issue....just a wear and tear issue.  Any other combination of gear/4x4 and the truck should be fine.  Whether or not you will find the performance acceptable is the real question.  I hauled plenty a mile in SC/NC with my trailblazer and 6000# worth of trailer, did fine by my standards.

Where are you, flatlands or mountains?

You might also want to watch the tounge weight.  Sundowner bumper pulls tend to have heavier tounge weights that some other trailers.  I'm also thinking that the 777 is more in the 3,200 to 3,400lbs range (a friend of mine just sold one).  Using the weight distribution system is defintatly a great idea but make sure you include the sway control if you are going to be doing a lot of highway driving.

Because of the full escape doors pushing axle location to the rear, "warmblood" trailers like the 777 have much more tongue weight (both in GN & BP styles). Be sure and use a WDH on anything resembling a 1/2 ton truck/SUV with 2 horses.

The steel framed 777 bumper pull with a dressing room will weigh in at 3320 pounds.  The new '09 models that are all aluminum will weigh a little less.  If you had a model w/o a dressing room, than your about 2800#.
