Looking for feedback on this area for riding.  Is there enough riding for a week?  Info indicates 50 miles of trails but map mileage comes up short.  Comments on the campground? Weather in July? Thanks

We stay at the Palmerosa. The state camp has no hookups, pit toilets, and does not allow reservations. Sites are small for large LQ trailers. The state camp has a day ride parking lot, also. The trails are great and I love riding Hocking in Oct. I do HATE the road ride back & forth to the private camp. But, they will shuttle you to the far side of the park.

Thanks for your comments. We are interested in the private camp.  How much road riding do you have to do to reach the trails?  Are you talking blacktop with alot of traffic or gravel back road?  Thanks again.

We consider the Hoicking hills one of the most beautiful areas that we have ever been to. Here is the website for a private campground. It is very nice,http://www.hockinghills.com/threereasons/

Hocking is the most beautiful riding in Ohio, maybe even the tri-state area. I believe since two years ago, three reasons horse camp is only renting out to groups who rent the cabins and entire campground, no day riding. They definitely have the best location and access.

The Hocking Hills are in my backyard; well almost. It is beautiful. Not a lot trails for airing it out on a gaited horse.

July is hot and humid probably.

From the Palmerosa you have to ride an asphalt road to get to the trails. Not a lot of traffic, but the locals don't slow down much for horses. Steve will take you to various drop-off points so that you can ride back to camp and see more of the forest.

Three Reasons has a great location, but every year I hear a different story: it's open, it's closed, it's open only for groups, it's open only for day riding. Call them and be persistent, Lynn seems to be too busy to return phone calls.

The state camp also has a good location, but as noted it is primitive.

There are several other forests nearby with camping, you might want to consider 3 days at Hocking and 3 days somewhere else - Tar Hollow, Pike State Forest, Shawnee State Forest or Salt Fork State Park. Pike and Shawnee have private campgrounds.
