Thank you, everyone! I've been looking into new 2h GN Hawks. My local bank will give me a 10yr loan at 7%, which would make the payment comparable to the payment for used trailers that come close to my wish list... but would have the added advantage of being EXACTLY what I want.
I've also checked into the resale value (actual used Hawks listed for sale) AND gotten the depreciation estimates from the mfr, and everything looks stellar. In 10 years it should still be worth $5-8000. I searched here on HTW and didn't find any negative comments on them, either, which is really saying something!!!
Now we have to get over the huge hurdle of facing that $12k trailer loan in addition to the $14k truck loan I'll be needing once the truck sells! *gulp*
It seems the sidewalls are now galvanized steel rather than aluminum which older models may have. Not sure when they made that change, a I do know they had aluminum sidewalls in past years.
I do know that Trail-et (which has a relationship of sorts with Hawk) started using galvinized frames in 1996 and would think Hawk did the same around then.
