Hi, I am looking for a decent place in the above areas to camp/trail ride.  Barn facilities would be nice but not critical.  Any thoughts out there?  Thanks in advance for the help and info.

South Mountains State Park is about 50 miles North of Charlotte, NC. Trails are great with some moderate climbs and about 25 - 50 miles of very well preserved trails. A nice campground with bath house and barn for your horse. Ask for the larger camp sites to accomodate truck and trailer.

South mountain use to be only day use for horse riders. Uwharrie is close and has places to camp with horses.

Last summer we camped at Uwharrie National Forest, a little over an hour east of Charlotte, and an easy drive. The trails were nicely marked, and not overly strenuous. The campground had bathhouses with showers, there was a horse washing stand, you high-line the horses.

Perk2754  why is it sooo expensive to horse camp at Hard Labor Creek State Park?  I called the park and a rather hateful person told me the day riding fee was $12 so that is included in the stall price of $21 per night for a 10x10 (no bedding provided) stall.
