Considering an F350 DRW shorty. Anybody out there towing with one with a manual transmission that can give me an opinion as to this combination of features. I don't worry so much about the short box as I am interested in hearing about the stiffness of the 156 wheel base.

Thanks

Long beds tow/ride smoother.Known a few that towed with shortys and next purchase was a long one and was happier with ride and clearances between truck/trailer and usable bed space with trailer hooked etc.

I think the wheelbase on my 1 ton Chevvy is shorter than that, although I don't remember the exact dimension. It is considerably better with air bags, although it was OK without. I'm guessing that my regular cab with 60 inch cab to axle has the same wheelbase as a short bed with extended cab. I just went through the 10ft bed & regular cab vs 8ft bed and crew cab, vs 8ft bed and extended cab question again myself. Basically I'd rather keep the manuverability of the regular cab and clearance of 60 inch cab to axle length. If I NEVER needed to turn around in tight quarters I would consider a longer truck, but I don't think it would be worth it, given my turning needs. The other downside is that I don't have a back seat for the dog )-:
Ahhh, poor doggie.

Reg, good point. Let me explain the "we."

If I've been really good my wife will let me use her truck to tow our horse trailer.  Since her truck has at least 100 more hp than mine and is at least 14 years newer, I try to be good as often as I can.  When "we" go away for the weekend with the horses, she let's me drive. Ahhhhhhhhh.....happy trails.

I myself have a long bed dually and love it but i have a buddy with a short bed dually and he loves it. But i think it is fine with a smaller load with a big load it just beats you top crap. But that is my opinion.
