Hi
I accidentally pulled the cable free from my break away battery box, is it as simple as just putting it back in?
When the cable it out, should my trailer brakes be locked up? If so, it didn't seem that way.
Thanks
Joan

To your questions ...

Yes and Yes ...

Your battery is likely depleted.

Hook 12 volt charger to battery and pull cable. Tires/hubs should make a "clunk" type sound...if that happens, need battery or maybe just a charge, if not, might be unhooked.

A lot of people, (me too on my stock trailers) unhook them. Reasoning is that I got tired of dogs and stuff in the pickup box falling on/pulling cables at the worst time and locking up brakes. Have a few experiences in this department.

I know, probably not the polically correct thing to do, but on the ranch, maybe the smart thing to do on trailers that seldom travel to far or fast from home.

Well...if you are ever in a fatal accident where your trailer broke away and the investigators find your cable UNPULLED, because it was not connected...plan on being "thrown under the bus" by your insurance company and potentially facing vehicular man-slaughter charges...

We had an oops, too! I just plugged the cable back in. After reading the above postings I believe I should just buy a new battery rather than go through all the checking. The trailer and battery are 9 years old. So, new battery, yes?

A nine year old battery, if it's working at all, has only a little life span left. New batteries aren't very expensive, whole kits with new switches and all are available on the Internet. It might be wise to trade up at this point.
