I am 67 years old and am a horse trail riding/camping nut. Been fighting a bad hip for 3 years. The Dr. said it was bone on bone, basicly worn out. He suggested anterior hip replacement, and said I would be able to ride after 4 mos. (would like to hear from someone who's been there done that) I've had cortozone shots that helped for a while but now they are not helping a lot. Tried other things but not helping. Not riding is not a good option that I want to think about. Has anybody out there had an anterior hip replacement and can ride trails again?????? Riding in an arena for a short time doesn't really appeal to me.

My sister-in-law who was in her 50's had a hip replacement about 3 years ago and she is able to ride and does not bother her. Hers also was bone on bone but she had a horse accident and fought it for years before she decided to go and have it done. If you would like I can give you her e-mail and you could talk to her. Good luck

Yes! Would really appreciate to hear from a horse person. Let me know how to contact her at her conveince or she can contact me. I know all outcomes are not the same. Not sure how to use e-mail with this site. Thanks again!

I've had a replacement hip since 2008. I can ride again pain free! I was back in the saddle within two months... carefully of course.
Do get an opinion from a Dr that also does hip resurfacing. Not just total hip replacements. If the only tool he has is a hammer, all problems look like nails. I got a Birmingham hip from my second opinion. There are a few benefits that a horse rider gets that THR doesn't give.

Thanks for your info and encouraging news about THR. Love the comment about the Dr. and his hammer. Well spoken and funny! Second oppinions make sense. It's so good to hear from someone who has "been there, done that" and is RIDING". Anything as long as I am still able to ride!! (Crazy horsepeople!) Thanks again.
